The Uprising of Eridani
·
Published 2/7/2023With courage and supernatural weapons from another planet, a brave young hero battles the oppressive capitalist regime of Eridani to restore the chaotic socialistic kingdom and answer the age-old question: Is good stronger than evil?
A week ago, I was just a normal person. I had a job, I had friends, and I had never even heard of Eridani.
Everything changed when my wife left me. I don't blame her, though. I wasn't the man she married anymore. The only thing that made me happy was my work; the only family I had were those who worked with me. But even they weren't enough to keep me sane.
I began to forget things. My boss noticed that I wasn't myself and sent me to a psychiatrist. After some time, he diagnosed me with dementia and said that there was no cure for it. He told me to try and slow down on my job as much as possible before it got worse.
I didn't listen to him. Instead, I put all my effort into work, trying to make up for all the time I'd lose if the disease progressed faster than expected. But it didn't help; in fact, things got worse from there. Suddenly, everything around me became nothing but a blur; people's voices faded into white noise; memories of my past surroundings grew faint and hard to recall; everyday chores became difficult and confusing... Those who worked with me saw how quickly my mind deteriorated and found someone who could do something about it. That someone was the leader of a group called the Eridani Resistance Movement (ERM).
They explained to me that my condition was caused by a governmental experiment designed to "cure" mental illness and mental degeneration by altering the brain's chemistry into something much more simple while also boosting physical strength at the cost of intelligence and personality. They gave me an injection that would "cure" what they'd done to me and told me to wait twenty-four hours before anything else happened. After their explanation, they took off after making sure that I hadn't been followed by anyone who could be associated with either side of the war for Eridani's future regime: the ERM or the Regime itself.
My mind returned within half an hour, but my body felt weak like someone who'd just gotten out of bed after sleeping too long. I felt dizzy as if lying on a spinning bed and things appeared blurry until my vision adjusted to its new state of clarity where everything seemed too sharp for my eyes to focus on without blurring again - like looking at an object through one eye closed or through an out-of-focus camera lens. The feeling of being light-headed persisted as well as did a feeling of nausea which usually came whenever something upset my stomach, but this lasted longer than usual - like whenever you were sick with flu or food poisoning and would come back every hour or so - until finally subsiding, leaving behind a dull headache in its place over what felt like hours more than minutes later when it had started in the first place... And then suddenly everything went black...
