The Wit and Wordplay of Abby
·
Published 3/30/2023With her razor-sharp wit, rapid-fire wordplay, and brave loyal friends, sassy high school student Abby embarks on a pulse-pounding, life-threatening journey as she races against time - dodging bullets and outsmarting powerful enemies - to uncover the shocking truth.
Abby sat at the bus stop. Her backpack was heavy on her shoulders and she was looking out onto the street while waiting for the bus to arrive. The wind made her shiver, but she didn't want to go home, not now. She had finally broken up with her boyfriend after another argument. They had been together for a long time now and it all seemed so sudden, even though they had been fighting before.
"How could he be so insensitive?" she mumbled to herself.
She looked down into her bag for her phone, even though she knew she didn't need it to check the timetable. It wasn't there. "That's odd," she thought and looked around quickly, trying to remember if she had taken it out earlier or not, but without success. She rummaged through her purse, but it wasn't there either. She checked all of her pockets and all of her school bags, but still nothing turned up. She started walking back towards home again and hoped that someone would return it in the mean time, just like always happened whenever she forgot something in a café or somewhere else. After about twenty minutes, she arrived at her house again and walked in through the front door.
"Mom! Are you home?!" she called out as soon as she was inside, hoping that maybe her mother had returned from work already. But no sound of footsteps could be heard anywhere nearby and only silence answered her call. She took off her backpack and dropped it on the floor next to the door, then went upstairs to see if anything had changed since this morning when she left for school.
Her room was empty and everything looked exactly as it should have done after school today: empty bottles of water stood on her desk and clothes were thrown onto the floor where they landed last night when she got undressed in a hurry after changing back into them after track practice. Her phone wasn't on her bedside table and neither was it in any of the drawers or cupboards when she checked them next. She sighed heavily; not only did this mean that nobody had returned it yet, but now also that somebody had stolen both her phone as well as some money from one of these drawers while they were gone too! Not only that, but whoever had stolen them must have found her house keys too because they were missing from their hook by the door downstairs too!
Abby decided to go outside again in case she could find some clues about who might have taken them or something like that on the way out into town, but stopped abruptly when she opened the front door again: A black car was parked across the street directly in front of their house now! And there was someone sitting behind its wheel with its lights switched off! Instantly Abby knew who that person was: It was him! He was here at last! And he wanted revenge against Abby's family for what they had done!
