The Rejected

The small village of Chateau was small enough to be called a town, with only about 200 people living in it. The village was surrounded by tall trees that had already lost their leaves, and the houses were all made out of stone. It was a dark place, but it was home to our two friends.

Anton and Giselle have been friends since they were kids and have grown up together. Despite being so different from one another, they have been inseparable ever since. Anton is a pale skinny kid with brown hair and has glasses that always seem to be full of dust. He's the smart kid in class and does pretty well in school, despite having to study for hours every night. He likes reading books about ancient Greece and Rome, as well as learning about history in general. Giselle is the opposite of Anton: she is a blonde girl who is actually quite pretty and has perfect skin. She's athletic and prefers to hang out outside than spending more time studying than necessary like Anton does. She's not too bright but she's definitely not stupid either; she just doesn't care much about school or any kind of rules in general.

They have been inseparable ever since they were kids, but now that things are getting serious between them their relationship has started to get complicated. Anton is Jewish and Giselle doesn't know what her religion is exactly, but she's not Catholic like everyone around here seems to be. They both have suffered because of it, especially Anton who gets bullied every day at school because he's Jewish. He has tried to hide his religion from most people around him by hiding his Star of David necklace under his shirt when he goes out into public and smiling even though he would rather break someone's face for all the shit he gets for no reason other than being Jewish. Only Giselle knows about his true identity and unlike him she hasn't really been affected by it all that much: her father has always told her that there are more important things than religion in this world and she should never forget that no matter how much hatred she might see in front of her eyes every day.

Their friendship has also gotten complicated because of their romantic feelings for each other. Both of them realise it now but neither one wanted to say anything about it for fear of what the other might think or say about it or even worse, break up their friendship altogether if they end up rejecting one another because they're scared to lose what they have together right now. All they need right now is time to figure everything out on their own terms before saying anything else.

All day long Anton could see the priest at the church across the street from where he lived talking with some men dressed in black robes while pointing towards him with his hands every once in a while over there at his house and at times even looking straight at him through the windows when he would go back inside after playing outside with Giselle in the snow without a shirt on underneath his sweater, which got pretty damn hot after running around outside for some time without taking it off first. At first he thought nothing of it until his mother came down from upstairs wearing an angry face yelling at him for not wearing anything more than just a t-shirt underneath his sweater when going outside these days and telling him that she thinks something bad is going on because all those men are looking straight at her house lately instead of staring inside the church like always before this whole thing started happening last week, which surprised him a lot because he didn't know why anyone would ever want to look at him instead of watching over that old church across the street or why anyone would ever be interested in his boring life here in Chateau when there are so many better things to do outside this shitty town instead of spending so much time inside of whatever shitty grade school they have here teaching boring stuff like multiplication tables to kids like him or even worse learning shit that nobody cares about anymore like Latin or French or something like that instead of reading actual books written by real authors instead...
