I woke up this morning to my sister shaking me awake.

“We have to go to the island today,” She said. “Our visions are clear. We must go. It is time.”

When I opened my eyes and looked at her, I could see that her forehead was now deeply lined with lines of age and wisdom, the same lines that have been etched into my own face for many years now. It was obvious she was right in this matter, so I nodded slowly and sat up.

As we walked to the sea shore, my sister spoke softly in our native tongue, telling me of her vision. A dark mist had risen from the water last night as I slept, obscuring all we could see around us. But through this mist could be seen a strange shape on the horizon – an island where no island should be. She told me that she saw one of the gods rising from the water and approaching this island and that she had needed to follow him there to discover his purpose in doing so.

I had not had a vision myself that night when I went to sleep, but I had felt the same darkness surrounding me after listening to hers. I knew it was connected somehow and so she would just need me to help her find her way once we got there.

She walked ahead of me while I followed behind her along the shoreline, searching along the sand for any sign of a boat or anything else we could use to get us across what looked like several leagues of open sea between us and our destination. After walking for hours along the shoreline with nothing but wet feet and sand sticking to our skin though, I started to fear that we might not reach it before nightfall after all.

It was then that my sister turned around suddenly and called out my name as if she had heard something that alarmed her in some way. As I ran towards her, she pointed out into the distance at a spot where part of the fog seemed to be less dense than everywhere else – a place where one could see through it all the way over to where land should be but wasn’t anymore. It seemed almost as if someone had placed an invisible wall across half of the horizon, blocking our view of whatever lay beyond it on either side of them.

As we stood staring at this phenomenon, my sister suddenly grabbed my hand tightly in hers and began running back towards the shoreline with me following close behind her as fast as I could manage while still being able to keep up with such a quick pace as this one was set at. When we made it back onto dry land she stopped abruptly and turned around again towards where we had just been standing just moments before only to find that half of what used to be there now wasn’t any longer! The great barrier in front of us had already moved further down our path by several more paces while we watched in awe!

My sister shook me roughly by my arm again then, urging me on even faster than before as she continued running toward what remained of land before us until finally reaching it herself first despite being several steps behind me at first when we had stopped moving in order for her to stare at what happened before us upon entering into its presence. There was no beach left for us to stand on anymore – only two massive flat rocks with sheer cliffs on both sides separated by a narrow gap between them which led directly into seemingly endless ocean waters beneath them instead! We were trapped!
