The False Proclamation of Marco

The night was cold and dark, the moon shone bright above. The streets of Sao Paolo were silent and empty. A man sauntered down an alley way, he walked with the confidence of a man who knew he could kill you before you could even blink. His hands were in his pockets, fingering what looked like a syringe. He stopped at the end of the alleyway and looked around, making sure no one was there. That's when it happened. A shadow appeared out of nowhere and grabbed him by the neck, pinning him against the wall behind him, choking him.

"What do you think you're doing?" Asked a gruff voice from behind the shadow that had assaulted the man.

The man struggled to get out of his grip but was unsuccessful, "I-I'm doin' my job boss! I'm just...lookin' fer the girl!"

"You're looking for our package? The girl? What did I say about calling her that?" The man growled as he squeezed tighter on his throat.

"She's not a package! Her name is Maria!" He squeaked as he reached for his gun but couldn't quite reach it through his pocket in time.

"Is that so? She's not a package?" The shadow asked with a hint of amusement in his tone. In one swift move, he tore off the mans tie and pushed him towards the ground hard enough to knock him out. "You stupid fool." He muttered under his breath as he picked up the unconscious body and began to drag him away from where he thought Maria might be hiding. When he was close enough to hear Maria's footsteps from her location in front of him, he threw the body down on to the ground near her. "Hey kid! Your client here says hi." He said as he stepped back into darkness. "Bye now." He whispered before disappearing into the shadows again.
