Aydan

My heart was in my throat. I was shivering under my bedsheets. I looked up at my clock and saw the numbers, "12:00". Then, the doorbell rang. I heard my mother get up from her bedroom. I tried to calm myself down by taking a deep breath. My mother opened the door, "Christopher! You're here!" I was flabbergasted. It was 12:00. How did he get here this fast? I got up from my bed and walked out into the hall. My mother was talking to Christopher as if nothing had happened.

"I'm gonna go upstairs and change," I said.

"Ok, sweetie," my mother said.

I ran up the stairs and went into my room. I got changed quickly and put the dress over my head. I went back to the bathroom to do my makeup and hair. I looked at myself in the mirror and smiled. I ran down the stairs and stood in front of my mother, who was still talking to Christopher.

"Mom, can you please stop talking to him?" I asked.

My mother turned around and looked at me. She put her hands on her cheeks and screamed, "Oh, Aydan! You look so beautiful!"

"Thank you!" I said, smiling.

Christopher walked over to me and smiled. He looked me up and down and said, "You look... uh... good."

I laughed. "Thank you!" I said.

"Well, we should probably all get going," my mother said.

"Where are we going?" I asked.

"To the mall!" my mother replied.

"The mall?!" I asked.

"Yes!" my mother said.

"When's the last time we were there?" I asked.

"Two years ago," she replied.

"Oh, right..." I said.

"So, let's go!" my mother exclaimed.

"Uh, Mother... I have to do something before we leave," I said.

"What is it?" she asked.

"I have to take some of my pills," I replied.

"Oh, ok. Go ahead," my mother said.

I walked up to my room and got the bag of pills I kept in my closet. I opened the bag and took four pills out. These were the pills that would help me be calm and happy, because I was nervous about having to deal with other people. I went downstairs and gave them to my mother.

"Here you go," I said.

She nodded and took the bag. "Let's go, then."

We all walked outside and got into the car. "Where's the mall?" Christopher asked.

"It's not very far from here," my mother said.

"Oh, why didn't you just say so?" Christopher replied.

We drove to the mall and got out of the car. Christopher walked over to my side and helped me out of the car. My mother walked over and started walking, but I stopped and waited for Christopher.

"What's wrong?" he asked.

"Nothing..." I replied.

He sighed. "Aydan, we need to talk about what happened this morning."

"Why?" I asked. "It doesn't matter anymore."

"Well, it does to me," he replied.

"If you want to talk about it, we can do it later," I said.

"No, I meant after we go to the mall," he said.

"Oh, ok," I replied.

We walked to the mall and got inside. I was immediately greeted by a crowd of people. They all started rushing towards me, trying to touch me.

"Look, it's Aydan!" one girl said.

Everyone started whispering and pointing at me. I closed my eyes and turned away. They started getting louder and louder, so I covered my ears. Suddenly, I felt a hand on my arm. I opened my eyes and saw my mother.

"Aydan, you can take your medication now," she said.

I nodded. We walked to a bench and sat down. My mother handed me the pill bottle and I took four pills out. I swallowed them and felt the anxiety leave me.

"Better?" my mother asked.

"Yes... Thanks..." I replied.

"You need to find a way to calm down," she said.

"I know... I will..." I said.

We stood up and walked into the mall. I was immediately bombarded again, but this time I was able to stay calm. I followed my mother to where my favorite store was.

"Oh, Aydan, this is where your dress is!" my mother said.

"I thought we were going to get it from somewhere else," I said.

"No, I wanted to see what you liked," my mother replied.

"Oh..." I said.

"Let's go!" she exclaimed.

We went inside the store and tried on several dresses until I finally found the perfect one.

"This one!" I said.

"You're right," my mother replied. "This is the one."

I went to the dressing room and tried it on. I looked in the mirror and smiled. I loved it. I walked out and showed my mother.

"Oh, it looks so good on you!" she said. "And it fits perfectly!"

"Yeah, I can't wait to wear it!" I replied.

We bought the dress and walked to another store. I looked through the clothes, but nothing fit me.

"Mom, nothing here fits me," I said.

"Oh, right..." she said. "Well, we'll just try somewhere else."

We went to the next store and I looked through the clothes. I found a few that fit me, but nothing special. I heard a voice behind me, "Oh, Aydan! You're here!"

I turned around and saw my father.

"Hi, Dad," I said.

"How are you doing?" he asked.

"I'm alright. I'm looking for a dress for the party," I replied.

"Oh, you still have that thing?" he asked.

"Yeah, and I'd really like to go," I said.

"I'll see what I can do," he replied.

"Thanks," I said.

"So, what do you think of this dress?" he asked.

I looked at it and smiled. "I love it! What are you gonna wear?"

"I'm gonna wear a suit," he replied.

"Cool," I said. "I guess I should get some shoes and accessories."

"Yeah, let's go," my dad said.

We walked over to a shoe store and I picked out a few pairs of shoes. I also got some jewelry. Then, we walked over to another store. I picked out some ties and shirts.

"Are you gonna get any new glasses?" my dad asked.

"No, I like the ones I have now," I replied.

"Alright," he said.

We left the mall and got in the car.

"So, how did you like the mall?" my mother asked.

"I loved it! I got the dress and shoes and other things," I said.

"Oh, that's great!" my father replied.

We drove back to the house and went inside. I put my stuff on the counter and sat down with my mother.

"So, who's coming to the party?" I asked.

"Well, the whole family and a few friends," my mother replied.

"Oh, cool. I'm glad to meet the family," I said.

"Me too... So, I have to ask you something," my mother said.

"What is it?" I asked.

"Well, I was thinking about asking your father to remarry," she replied.

"Oh, well, that's a good idea," I said.

"Yeah, but I was wondering if you'd be ok with it," my mother said.

"Of course! I want you to be happy," I replied.

"Oh, thank you, sweetheart," my mother said.

"Well, I think I'm gonna go upstairs and relax," I said.

"Ok, sweetie," my mother replied.

I got up and went to my room. I took off my dress and put on some shorts and a shirt. I got into bed and closed my eyes. I took deep breaths and fell asleep.
