Kronii and the Miniature Nation
·
Published 2/1/2023When goddess of time Ouro Kronii time-travels 1000 years into the future, she is shocked to find the once proud Brazilian islands populated with inhabitants a fraction of their former size. Kronii must team up with them and her even smaller human sidekick to battle a giant talking jaguar threatening to swallow the islands and answer the ultimate question: Is humanity’s future doomed to dwindle away?
It’s been 1000 years since I last walked upon this land. I have witnessed the rise and fall of countless civilizations, but none so unique as these people. They call themselves the Brazilians. And I must say, they are the most amazing people I have ever met.
I was a curious child. It was not that I was raised better than other kids by my parents; it was innate curiosity about the world. I remember asking questions about how babies were made and why the sun rose and set every day. My parents told me that my Grandmother Helga had died from the “Cholera of the Lungs” and had been sick for a long time. I asked my parents how she could have had lung disease when she didn’t smoke or even breathe. I was just an inquisitive child.
I saw the sadness in my parents’ eyes when they would talk about my grandmother. They would always try to hide their own sadness, because they didn’t want to worry me. They didn’t want to let me know that they themselves were sad. I was able to see through their facade, but I didn’t want to hurt them. So I kept silent.
As I grew older, I became more curious about the world around me. I went on to study medicine and biology, curious about how everything worked. I wanted to understand how things were built and what made them work. I wanted to know how our bodies functioned and how we were alive.
My father was a farmer. He grew things in the fields, and I would help him with his farming. I was happy to be there with him, helping him. He always found the time to teach me whatever he could about the crops he grew and the fields that surrounded us.
My mother was a kind woman. She ran the local schoolhouse, and every day she would greet me at the door with a smile and a kiss. I loved being able to spend time with her. I would help her clean the floors and make the lunches for her students, and then I would sit in the corner and read while she taught.
When I was ten years old, my parents both got sick at the same time. They were not sick for long, because they died, and then they were buried. There was a funeral and many people came. I was sad, but a few months later I had a new family. My Uncle Jeppe and Aunt Linnea took me in, and I was able to continue with my studies.
I continued to learn about the world, and I continued to learn about farming. I helped out my new family as much as I could, and they were happy to have me. I was happy to be with them.
One day, I was walking in the fields behind our farm. The plants were really beautiful, and I wanted to take a closer look. Suddenly, I stopped walking and looked up at the sky. The sun shone down on me, and I felt like something was different. I looked down at my hand and I gasped.
My hand was covered in a golden light. I could feel the light creeping up my arm, my neck, my face, and then my head. I was no longer standing on the ground, but in the clouds. I was above the fields and the houses, and I was looking down at everything.
I looked down at my hands again, and they were different. My skin was gold and my arms were long. I could feel wind blowing through my hair, and I laughed. I was floating. I didn’t know how, but I knew I was flying. I looked down again, and I slowly started to descend back to the ground.
I landed gently and looked around. I was in the middle of the field, and all the crops were still growing. I looked down at myself, and my golden skin had vanished. My arms were normal, my hair was normal, and I was wearing the same clothes.
I was confused. I looked straight ahead and saw a man in the distance. He was wearing an apron and had dirt smudged on his face. He was walking towards me, and I did not move. As he came closer, I recognized my uncle.
As he got closer, I saw that he was not angry. He smiled at me and asked me what I was doing in the middle of his field. I told him I was just taking a walk. He said that I shouldn’t do that, because I might step on one of the plants. I told him I hadn’t done that and that I was careful. He smiled at me and then went back to work.
I went home and washed my hands, because they were dirty. I was happy because I had learned something new that day. I had learned that if I stepped on a plant, it would get hurt. That meant that I should not step on any of the plants in the field, because I didn’t want to hurt them.
I also learned that I wasn’t normal. I knew that I wasn’t normal, because my parents were dead, and everyone else was alive. But now I knew a little bit more. I knew that I had a power. A power that was different than other people. I was special, and I liked it.
After that day, I decided that I wanted to learn more about myself and the world. I wanted to learn as much as I could. I wanted to discover how everything worked.
I continued to help my uncle and aunt with their farm, and I continued to go to school. I did well in my studies, and everyone was happy. But I was happiest when I was outside, working in the fields. I enjoyed helping my uncle and aunt, but I knew that my true calling was to learn about the world around me.
One day, I was sitting alone in the middle of the fields. I was thinking about my future, and I looked up at the sky. As I did, I heard a voice in my ear.
“It is time.”
I was shocked, and I fell to the ground. I looked up, but I saw nothing. I was alone in the fields, and it was night time. I heard the voice again.
“You have learned enough.”
I got up, looked around, and then started walking home. I decided to do some research before I went to bed. When I was little, I had created a system to keep track of all the things I learned. I wrote everything down, and I kept all my notes in an old suitcase. I decided to go look through my notes to see if I could figure out what was happening.
I went to my room and opened my suitcase. The first thing I looked at was my notes on my parents. I read through them carefully, but there was nothing unusual. I was starting to get frustrated, so I moved onto my notes about the plants. I looked through them once again, and then I saw it.
I had written down that I had learned something new about the plants that day. I had learned that stepping on them was bad, because it hurt them. But I had never written down that I had discovered that I had a power. I had never written down that I was special.
I put down my notes and thought about what the voice had told me. I wasn’t normal. I had a power that was different than others. I liked it.
I decided that I would use my power. I would use it to learn about the world around me. I would study the world and I would study myself. Then, I would be the greatest person who ever lived.
I got up from my bed, left my suitcase open on the floor, and went to sleep. The next morning, I woke up and went to school. My teacher asked me why I was late, and I told her that I had forgotten to write down something in my notes last night. She was mad, and I was too, but I just went to my seat and tried not to think about it.
Later in the day, I went outside to the field where I had found my power. I closed my eyes and listened to the world around me. I could hear the leaves rustling in the trees, and I could hear the birds chirping. I was happy, and I decided that I would go and visit my uncle and aunt.
I walked over to their house and knocked on their door. My aunt answered, and I told her that I wanted to talk to my uncle. She said that he was working in the field and that I should go out there and find him.
I went out to the field, and sure enough, I found my uncle. He was working hard, and he asked me what I wanted. I told him that I wanted to talk to him, and he told me that he would be done in a
