Richard was the first to see him.
"Hey, isn't that the kid who always hangs out at the library?" Richard pointed out to me, but I wasn't paying attention.
In my opinion, there was nothing more boring than sitting around in a cafe just wasting time. Maybe that's why we were here so often, because it was something to do and it kept us from getting bored.
Richard and I were more or less acquaintances of each other. We went to the same school. He was a little taller than me, buzz cut hair, sort of a loner type. We had found ourselves in this cafe quite often for no reason whatsoever. This time was no exception; we had decided to meet up at the cafe after school for fuck knows why.
"Where did you say he's from?" I finally said as I looked up from my phone into Richard's face. He shrugged his shoulders and pointed towards the person he was referring to.
"He's been coming here for about a month now." He said, "I've seen him talking to people sometimes, but mostly he just stays by himself reading books."
I looked over and noticed the boy Richard was referring to sitting alone in a corner reading what looked like some kind of textbook. He seemed really into whatever he was reading, as his eyes scanned quickly across the page while his lips were pursed slightly as if he were thinking hard about something. His glasses sat high on his nose with one wire stem holding them on each side of his face while the other fell down by his neck, half concealed under the collar of his white shirt which had two buttons undone at the top revealing his chest covered in a light brown fur. The boy looked like he couldn't be more than sixteen years old, yet he carried himself with an air of sophistication that most people don't have at that age; god knows I didn't at that age either! His short black hair bobbed up and down every time he moved his head back and forth with such vigor that anyone could tell how absorbed he was in whatever book he was reading.

The day before yesterday I went to the library again to try and find another book to read when I spotted him sitting quietly in a corner surrounded by piles upon piles of books stacked all around him on the ground. It appeared as though the boy had been studying for hours already; however, it looked as if he hadn't even opened one book! Every once in a while he would pick up one of the books closer to him and scan through it impatiently while looking quite annoyed as if wondering why they were wasting his time by not being what he wanted. Then he would throw them back down onto the ground and go back to looking through another pile looking more irritated than before when suddenly something caught his eye and a smile crept onto his face as if something finally struck gold! He began rifling through this stack much slower this time but with equal enthusiasm until finally sifting through all of it until finding something worth taking out which appeared to be an incredibly thin book only ten pages long! He turned around holding it in front of him so only someone standing behind him could see it as if trying to hide its contents from everyone else who might have been looking at it too long! He smiled even bigger from ear-to-ear before opening up the book and reading through it excitedly making sure nobody could see what it said! After about five minutes spent reading silently, he closed up whatever book it was with a big smile still plastered on his face and put it back alongside all of the other books on the floor next to him! By then it was already 5:30 pm and since there wasn't any light left outside anymore save for moonlight shining through windows high above where shadows danced across wooden floors gleaming softly off red carpeting...I left without saying anything hoping to catch another glimpse of this stranger tomorrow when I returned once again hoping maybe I could strike up some sort of conversation maybe even get to know each other? But those hopes were dashed when I arrived again today only three hours later and saw him reading away still fully absorbed in whatever book had captured his attention yesterday afternoon making me wonder just how long is this boy going stay here? What is so special about these books that has made him lose track of time? These questions swirled around inside my head endlessly until my stomach began growling reminding me that even though I am very interested in this boy, there are other things besides books that are beginning to occupy my mind making me hungry! But alas before leaving for home I would need find out where that boy lived anyway right? For when I return tomorrow perhaps then we can strike up some kind of conversation? Who knows maybe we could even get married someday ...who knows?
