Exploring the Buried City of Ismelda

The jungle was thick. The sun beat down on the small group of explorers as they trudged through the mud, sweated their way through the humidity, and endured the inevitable mosquito attacks. But despite all that, the jungle had held many secrets over the years. Ancient ruins littered the ground, some with carvings forgotten by time and others being slowly swallowed by the lush green wilderness. One of those ruins was particularly special to Professor William Leachman.

"This is what I've been looking for all these years!" he exclaimed as he brushed off some of the vines covering it. His face was red from the heat and his brown hair was plastered to his head.

"Professor," said one of his students, "I think we're lost."

"Lost? Lost!?" he said, exasperatedly pointing at a map in his hand, "We're right here! We haven't gotten lost yet!" He mopped his brow with a handkerchief and continued studying the area around him.

"So... Do you think we can have lunch now?" asked Ryan Chan nervously. He was small and skinny with glasses.

Professor Leachman eyed up their surroundings and grunted angrily before pulling out a sandwich from his pack. He threw it towards Ryan who caught it mid-air and began chewing on it happily. Meanwhile, Ryan's friend Rhett MacManus sighed in relief and started eating his own meal. He had dark skin, short hair turned blond from being out in the sun too long, and carried a large backpack on his back filled with equipment for anything that might happen along their journey there. He'd been friends with Ryan for almost two years now ever since they started using their shared names in high school where he was known as Rhett McManus and she as Ryan Chan. But after hearing Professor Leachman constantly call her name wrong, they thought it would be funny to start calling themselves by their last names instead to confound him even more. Thus far, it had worked wonders for them both with speculation about Rhett's gender or sexuality being spread all over campus while Professor Leachman remained convinced that Rhett was an actual man despite the feminine nature of his first name and appearance.

The two were eating in peace when suddenly something fell from above onto Rhett's head followed by another one landing nearby which made it skitter away into the bushes on its six legs like a crab with two other things following it shortly behind trying to catch up to each other so as not to be left behind; this caused Rhett to drop his food and grab at whatever was attacking him while shouting obscenities at it until he noticed something else falling out of the sky down towards himself so he tried to dodge out of the way but hit Ryan instead causing her sandwich to fall out of her hands and land right next to another insectoid thing which stopped dead in its tracks when smelling it before seizing the opportunity and pouncing on it while devouring its victim whole causing Rhett to pull a gun out of his backpack while also shouting at whatever happened to be attacking him before shooting at a vine which fell down like a curtain on top of him giving him enough time to escape into a nearby bush but still holding onto that gun though just in case those bugs decided to attack again causing him to panic even more but thankfully there were no more bugs jumping at him or attacking him after that causing him to sigh in relief but also check himself over for any bug bites or scratches which he fortunately didn't get meaning whoever attacked him wasn't poisonous after all which made sense seeing how much larger than normal those bugs were but still having no idea what they were or where they came from cause obviously they're not normal bugs which means there might be something dangerous lurking nearby threatening their lives! And just then that something appeared from behind one of those trees making Rhett jump back away from it screaming in terror!
