*September 23rd*

Ahava and I were running through the woods. From the village, he told me. We had to make it there before the sun rose.

"How far is it?!?" I shouted at him between gasps for air. I could see his face becoming more and more pale as we kept moving. It was getting harder and harder to see him in the dark forest with just a few rays of moonlight shining through the canopy. His eyes were glowing red, and every time he turned to look at me, I couldn't help but yelp in fear. But it was better than facing what was happening back home. The screams of my friends and family still rang in my ears as we ran. "Please…please don't let them find us!"

We came to a sudden stop in front of a small pond, surrounded by trees on all sides with only one way out: a narrow path that led to our destination - the fjord. "I can hear them," he said, his voice raspy from lack of blood and breath. "They're coming for us." He looked at me with such desperation I couldn't help but feel like crying myself. But no tears would come out. Instead, I felt cold all over, as if my very soul was freezing up inside of me. "Come on," he said, turning around again to run down the path towards the water's edge. "The boat is just over there."

As we reached the water's edge, I finally saw what he meant by boat: it was nothing more than two hollowed pieces of wood tied together with a tarp thrown over top to keep anything from getting wet inside it. As he threw his body over top of it, I saw him start to shiver violently from how cold the water was based on how his hands were shaking so hard he couldn't untie our makeshift vessel from where we tied it up to some nearby trees behind us. I ran over and started helping him untie what little rope was left holding our raft down when suddenly…there they were! One after another after another after another…they walked out of the woods towards us, their eyes glowing red in anger at us trying to escape their grasp.

"What do we do?!" I yelled at him as he finished untying our little raft and got on board himself while I threw myself into the water beside him and held onto the side of our raft as best as I could while also keeping my head above water long enough for him to push us away from shore before jumping on board himself as well. "Do you know how to use this thing? We'll drown!!!" They wouldn't let that happen though - they came after us right away until one by one they fell into the water themselves trying to grab hold of our raft only for Damon to push them away before they could get their claws on any part of our vessel that wasn't fully underwater or tied down with rope by now anyway: even then they tried their best to grab onto either me or Damon trying their hardest not to touch any part of what little vessel we still had above water: even then though Damon pushed them away whenever he could; he could barely keep us afloat let alone fight off so many wanting to drink out blood without fail!

"Just hold on tight!!" he yelled at me after managing to get our boat fast enough away from shore where no more vampires could reach us anymore: only then did I realize that somehow this tiny floating piece of wood managed to make its way across most of the fjord already due to how fast Damon made us go before they could catch up with us anymore! "I'll try making sure we stay afloat!!!" All that kept going through my mind was one word: hope. Hope that maybe - just maybe - we'd survive this night alive after all!
