Timon's Descent
·
Published 7/11/2023In a war-torn, alternate-reality Germany, a daring and resourceful young wizard, Timon, driven by a burning desire to prove his worth, ventures forth to vanquish a sinister sorcerer threatening to lay waste to his homeland. Armed with a quick mind and unyielding determination, Timon must navigate treacherous obstacles, forming unlikely alliances to unravel a mysterious puzzle that holds the key to their salvation or demise. As danger escalates and hidden magical powers within him emerge, the stakes heighten unimaginably, until Timon must confront the ultimate question - will he triumph against the odds and become the hero his world desperately needs, or will the abominable sorcerer's nefarious plans plunge everything into eternal darkness?

"So what's the plan?"
Timon turned his head away from the moon, illuminating the snow-covered ground under them. He looked back up at Natasha, who was sitting on her knees, leaning against a tree.
"We wait."
Natasha snorted. "For what? It's freezing out here!" she yelled over the roaring of the nearby waterfall.
"I'll tell you when it's time." Timon was hunched over, arms wrapped around himself and shivering violently. The cold had forced him to stop thinking about anything other than how good it would be to get inside, but he knew it would be worth it.
"You've said that for an hour! When is it gonna be time!?" She snapped back at him. Her voice was muffled by the cloth covering her mouth to protect her from breathing in the frigid air.
Timon laughed quietly, more at his own foolishness than at Natasha's outburst. Of course he'd told her to wait out here while he went off to try and find Gaius alone. He'd had no idea how long he would be gone. All he knew was that once he reached the ice flow leading down to Gaius' lair, he'd have to cross it and confront him alone. He wasn't sure how much time it would take or if they'd get their chance to strike tonight at all.
Suddenly there was a loud crack behind him, followed by another one right next to him. Timon nearly jumped out of his skin when two figures emerged from thin air, materializing directly next to them in the snow. The two men wore thick cloaks with hoods pulled up high over their heads, concealing most of their faces in shadow despite the moon's light shining down on them and reflecting off their cloaks and weapons as well as some of the surrounding trees. They were both armed with long wooden staffs with a curved blade at the top and heavy leather gloves covering their hands and forearms up to just below their elbows. Timon recognized them immediately as two of Gaius' henchmen - two of his closest followers even - and knew instantly that something had gone wrong somewhere along the line after all.
The cold had made Timon so numb that he barely registered what was happening until one of the henchmen suddenly swung his staff downwards towards his head. Barely able to react, he dove out of the way just in time, rolling onto his side into a crouching position while pulling out his wand and pointing it at one of the henchmen in front of him as quickly as he could manage without dropping it due to how tightly he was holding onto it for warmth before he froze up again. The other henchman began chanting something under his breath while slowly raising his staff into a defensive position in front of himself as well, ready to fight if need be.
Timon's breath hitched in his throat as panic surged through him. He had hoped for a swift and unseen encounter with Gaius, not a confrontation with his loyal henchmen. With his heart pounding in his chest, he glanced over his shoulder at Natasha, who was scrambling to her feet, searching for a way out of this sudden ambush.
"Natasha, run!" Timon shouted, his voice strained with urgency as he tightened his grip on his wand. Without waiting for her response, he unleashed a burst of magic towards one of the henchmen, hoping to create a diversion. The henchman skillfully deflected the spell with his staff, a menacing glint in his eyes as he stared down Timon.
Muscles tense with resolve, Timon forced himself to focus on the situation at hand. He analyzed the henchmen's positions, their calculated movements, and realized that they had cornered him. There was no way around it; he had to fight his way through. He knew that Natasha wouldn't stand a chance against these seasoned warriors.
Summoning every ounce of his courage, Timon cast a powerful shielding spell, creating a shimmering barrier around himself. The henchmen's attacks collided with the barrier, causing sparks to fly through the frigid air. He felt the strain of maintaining the shield, but he refused to break under the pressure.
As both henchmen redirected their attention to countering Timon's magic, Natasha's quick thinking came into play. She sprinted towards the nearest tree, leaping onto a low-hanging branch and pulling herself up. From her elevated position, she took aim with her crossbow, her eyes narrowing as she locked onto the henchman chanting the defensive spell.
With a sharp twang, Natasha released the bolt, sending it soaring through the air. It pierced through the henchman's protective shield, sinking deep into his shoulder with a sickening thud. The henchman stumbled back, momentarily disrupted as pain clouded his focus.
Taking advantage of this opening, Timon summoned a hurricane-like gust of wind, aiming it directly at the injured henchman. The force of the wind threw him off balance, knocking him to the ground and away from his companion. The henchman's staff skidded across the snow, out of his reach.
Sensing victory within their grasp, Timon and Natasha locked eyes, nodding at each other. There was no need for words; they had fought side by side before, their trust in each other unbreakable.
Without hesitation, the duo attacked the remaining henchman simultaneously. Timon unleashed rapid-fire spells, keeping the henchman on the defensive and preventing him from retaliating. Natasha, nimble as a cat, leaped from tree to tree, closing in on her target.
Finally, in one swift motion, Natasha landed behind the henchman, wrapping her arm around his throat in a chokehold. Panic flitted across his eyes as he struggled, the pressure of Natasha's grip constricting his airway. His attempts to break free grew weaker with each passing second.
With a surge of adrenaline coursing through him, Timon seized the opportunity. He aimed his wand at the henchman, his voice commanding as he cast a powerful binding spell. A network of glowing ropes sprung from the tip of his wand, entwining themselves around the henchman's limbs, rendering him immobilized.
The forest fell into silence, save for the heavy breathing of Timon and Natasha. Their victory hung heavy in the air, mingling with the biting cold surrounding them. They stood there, catching their breath, the weight of what they had just achieved sinking in.
As the adrenaline subsided, Timon's mind returned to their original mission. The henchmen's presence was a clear indication that Gaius was aware of their plan, and that their element of surprise had been shattered.
"We need to move," Timon said, his voice steady despite the fatigue in his bones. "Gaius knows we're here. We can't afford to waste any more time."
Natasha nodded, her face flushed with determination. Together, they turned their gaze towards the icy flow that led to Gaius' lair, a glimmer of hope flickering in their eyes. They knew that their biggest challenge was still ahead of them, but in that moment, they were united in their unwavering resolve to take down the dark force that threatened their world.
