Bonsoir and the Redemption of Evil

My story begins with a murder.

But, wait--I should preface my tale by clarifying that I do not believe in the existence of good and evil. We are humans: we are all works in progress. Some people are more well-rounded than others, sure, but I want to make it clear that I am not going to try to claim that any one person is "pure evil" or anything like that. There is only one thing which is truly pure evil in this world: humanity itself.

That's right--I said it! Humanity has put forth a better effort at destroying itself than any other species on earth has been able to do. I'm not just talking about wars and murders here--we humans also have a knack for ruining our own environment as well as the environment of other species on earth. It really doesn't matter if you're from one political party or another, from one religion or another, from one country or another--we're all pretty much doomed. We're the most successful species on earth despite the fact that we are destroying ourselves and everything else around us at the same time.

But I'm getting off topic here. Where was I? Oh, yes--a murder. It all began with a murder, but let me start by saying that it was not a particularly gruesome murder. In fact, it wasn't much of a murder at all because the victim didn't die immediately. The victim did indeed die eventually, but much later than they should have died had they received proper medical attention sooner than they did after being shot by their neighbors (who were also friends).

Nowadays it would be hard to find someone who wouldn't be able to tell you who lived in their nearest vicinity, but back in the day this was not so common knowledge. Knowing who lived next door to you was considered something like an invasion of privacy back then--so for Mr. Smith to know who his neighbors were before he got shot by them is quite unusual even today (since we now have Google Earth and Facebook and such). But Mr. Smith knew who his neighbors were because he had grown up with them since they were children so many years ago when he first moved into his house (a house which was now owned by his sons). He had watched these three boys grow up into men, and although they never became very close friends of his over the years, Mr. Smith could honestly say that he felt as if he knew these men well enough to feel comfortable living near them without any reservations whatsoever (this is why he didn't move away despite how busy he was with work). He knew what their names were (Brian, Mike, and Carl) and he knew where they worked (they all worked in construction), but most importantly he knew what kind of people they were (they were good people). So imagine Mr. Smith's surprise when these good people took a gun out of their pockets and started shooting him in his home late one evening after drinking too much whiskey with each other earlier that night!

Mr. Smith sustained multiple gunshot wounds from the attack, which left him bleeding out on his living room floor for hours before someone finally noticed something strange was going on with their neighbor. It turned out Brian (the ringleader of this heinous crime) had called 911 himself after realizing what happened and told the police that his elderly neighbor had fallen down some stairs in his house but had gotten back up again, so everything must be okay now because there's no way Mr. Smith could have possibly died from falling down some stairs anyway, since he wasn't old enough to die yet, after all. So, it must've been something else entirely which caused him to bleed out instead--and so, Brian made the 911 call while Mike acted like nothing was wrong at all, and Carl stood at ease behind Brian looking nervous but otherwise calm enough considering what they'd just done moments earlier.

It took almost an hour for paramedics to arrive at Mr. Smith's house in order to save him from bleeding out completely after being shot five times by his neighbors that evening, but when they arrived they found an unconscious man lying motionless on the ground surrounded by blood-soaked furniture covered in blood-soaked clothing. The paramedics managed to revive Mr. Smith before transporting him to a medical facility where doctors began operating on him immediately. Meanwhile, detectives questioned everyone who had any potential involvement with this case and gathered evidence from the crime scene, including information about Brian and Mike's online presence through various social media sites.

These investigations take time because detectives usually need some time after interviewing suspects before deciding whether or not charges will be filed against them, depending on whether or not there's enough evidence proving beyond a reasonable doubt that they committed the crime being investigated. Detectives often rely on information and evidence gathered from interviews, crime scenes, and even online sources such as social media profiles to build their case against potential suspects. This process can be complex and time-consuming, as law enforcement
