Mischief and Misconceptions: Lydia's Gambit
·
Published 5/24/2023In fourth century Germany, the beguiling Lydia plays wicked, boundary-pushing word games with her loveless husband Ferdinand as they strive to rekindle their failing relationship - with a shocking and captivating conclusion that proves nothing is as it seems.

“I’m not sure how I feel about this.”
“Well, you’re either in or we can just forget about it all.”
“But... there’s no way you could be pregnant.”
Lydia looked up from the book on her lap and stared at Ferdinand for a moment with a look of confusion on her face.
He continued, “we haven’t had sex in months. Not since... Well... You know. And even before that we hadn't done anything in weeks. So I don't see how you could be pregnant.”
She had been hoping to keep this whole thing a surprise until she was actually showing but what did he expect? She needed him to sign off on the pregnancy test now so that they could move forward with their plan.
Lydia sighed and put down the book, “I guess I should have been more specific in my instructions but you knew what I meant when I told you to buy the pregnancy tests. We wouldn’t have bought them if it wasn't for me being pregnant would we? I mean, why else would we need them? It certainly wasn’t to try and get me pregnant again because there hasn't been any... Well... You know. You can stop stuttering around the issue, it's quite unnerving actually. We are married after all, we've seen each other naked every which way possible multiple times and now you're acting like we are strangers! Anyway, do as I say and sign here, both of us need to sign this little form otherwise it doesn't count as a baby right? If it doesn't count as a baby then nothing happens, I'm not gonna get another shot at this so you better sign it!”
Ferdinand sighed and picked up the little purple clipboard off of the kitchen table and looked down at the document Lydia had given him earlier that evening along with her instructions. He adjusted his glasses on his nose as he scanned over the paper looking for something he could sign his name next to before finding a blank spot near the bottom of the page. He quickly scribbled his name onto the paper and handed it back to his wife who snatched it out of his hand and began writing her own signature on it before folding it up and sticking it into the pocket of her robe before turning back towards him and giving him a smile.
Lydia held up a finger in front of her lips as she stood up from her chair and walked around behind Ferdinand before whispering into his ear, “it doesn't count as a baby unless we both sign it so if you don't want me to carry your child around inside my stomach all winter long while you sit there calling me your "wife" then do exactly as I say! Now let's go upstairs so that we can continue this little project of ours together shall we? We'll start by getting undressed shall we? Shall we get undressed together or just take off our clothes one at a time? Oh! What about stripping each other naked? Have you ever stripped anyone naked before Ferdi? Does that sound like something fun to do with your lovely wifey? That does sound nice doesn't it!? I bet that's something you've always wanted to do with someone huh!? Well here's your chance sweetheart! Let's strip each other naked so that we can get started shall we!?”
