The ship was nearly ready for launch. Its sleek, metallic sides shone in the light of the stars as it awaited the final preparations before the journey could begin. The crew were all aboard, with their uniforms tucked away until they were needed and their instruments checked and double-checked. All that remained now was for the captain to enter the bridge and prepare for warp speed.

The door to the bridge slid open with a rush of air and Captain Rane made his entrance into the room, clutching a clipboard in his hands. His uniform was crisp and clean and his boots shined perfectly. He strode confidently up to the control desk, saluted sharply to his crew, then took a seat in his chair at the center of the room. He placed down his clipboard then turned to face his crew of four other men.

"Gentlemen," he said loudly and with authority. "Let's get this show on the road." A smile spread across his face as he watched each crew member nod in turn and start to carry out orders from their captain.

Within a few minutes, the ship had been launched into space and it was already well on its way toward its destination: a planet that had been discovered just two days prior by one of Rane's engineers, Darcy Wright. The planet was still new enough that it didn't have an official name yet, but Wright had dubbed it "Planet G" based on where it was located relative to Earth: G for Great Britain, where Wright hailed from. Unsurprisingly, most of the other members of Rane's crew found little humor in this joke; after all, England wasn't exactly known for its great space explorations in recent years. Still, they humored Wright as best they could and let him call it Planet G while they went back to getting ready for takeoff.

For Captain Rane, though, there really wasn't much left to do except observe his crew while they carried out their duties. They worked quickly but efficiently; after all, they'd been working together on Captain Rane's various missions for years now and each man knew what he needed to know without being told explicitly every time something changed. Instead, Rane spent most of his time watching them work; he enjoyed seeing how well everyone worked together as a unit when fully focused on their jobs instead of trying to carry out conversations or small arguments at every opportunity. That was half the reason why he'd picked this particular group of five men to make up his standard crew: he wanted people who were professional enough that they could focus on doing their jobs when needed instead of carrying out whatever ridiculous antics many modern day businesses would allow if given half a chance.

It wasn't long before Darcy Wright approached Rane at his desk and tapped him on the shoulder respectfully to signal that he wanted attention from the captain again. Rane smiled at him then turned around in his chair so they faced each other directly side-by-side instead of across from each other across the desk like before.

"Ah Captain," said Wright excitedly as soon as he saw Rane's face looking back at him expectantly. "We've arrived! Planet G! We're here!" He waved both arms into the air excitedly as he spoke; behind him several other members of the crew looked up curiously at him but returned quickly back to their tasks once they realized they didn't need any attention from Captain Rane right now.

"I see that," replied Rane calmly, smiling peacefully despite knowing full well that this mission would be anything but calm or peaceful given where they'd chosen to land on this mysterious new planet. "And I take it we'll be landing shortly?" He gestured down toward one end of Planet G which filled up most of their viewport: a rocky mountain range with jagged peaks covered by clouds stretched out below them like an ocean waiting for a ship in need of some repairs to dock at her portside town harbor. It wasn't quite an ideal place for landing but given how little time they had between Wright discovering Planet G and launching immediately afterward as soon as possible into space again, there really hadn't been any better options available for them than this location near where Wright had spotted signs of life on Planet G's surface with only minimal scouting beforehand beyond that one initial look over by himself alone that had convinced him there was probably something worth investigating down there anyway once some more manpower became available for such an investigation following immediately after launch from Earth itself if possible...
