Overcoming Adolescence: Sisterly Strength and Volleyball Victories
·
Published 3/2/2023Sisters Ellen and Maria bravely confront their insecurities and bond, as they join their college's competitive volleyball team, trying to learn to love themselves while undergoing all the awkward angst of adolescence.
"Okay, everyone's here!" a voice called out from the other side of the locker room.
"Huh?" I muttered to myself. "Who's here?"
I had woken up in my bed at home and was now sitting on the floor as I tried to force my eyes open so that I could get ready for work. What day is it? I wondered as I looked at the clock on my phone. Then my memory was jogged as I remembered what today was: Tuesday, September 26th, 2017. My first day back at work after summer break.
I rubbed my eyes to try and wake up before getting up off of the floor and walking over to my dresser, which was now unusually filled with a bunch of clothes that definitely didn't belong to me. As I opened the dresser drawer, I found a note that read, "Your dad and I are going out tonight for our anniversary but we forgot our luggage at your uncle's house." That explains why my closet looks like a thrift store threw up in it, I thought to myself. Then suddenly, an image flashed through my head of an overly-muscular man putting various items into a suitcase while his wife looked on with a blank stare. "Aunt Karen," I said to myself knowingly, "was probably drunk again."
Then another image flashed through my head: two girls wrestling each other on the ground. As they tussled with each other, their shirts came off and revealed two pairs of humungous breasts bouncing around as they fought. "Oh yeah," I said aloud as the memories flooded back into my brain, "that happened."
My mind was flooded by images from last summer, when my sister Maria and her roommate Ellen had invited me to go with them on a trip to Payson Camp for Girls (a camp exclusively for women). At first, I didn't want to go because Maria had told me that she'd be bringing her boyfriend along on the trip (which would no doubt make me feel extremely awkward), but then she told me that Ellen also wanted me to come along in order to help her pick out an outfit for the trip since she didn't really know what kind of clothes she needed for something like this. After thinking about it more, it actually sounded like fun so I agreed to attend. We ended up having such a great time together at the camp - except for one thing: Maria's boyfriend Mark showed up unexpectedly two days before we left Payson Camp and stayed with us at the hotel until we were ready to leave; which made me incredibly uncomfortable throughout most of our stay (especially when Mark decided that he wanted Maria all to himself every night). But despite all that, Maria and Ellen had grown increasingly closer throughout our time at camp (so much so that they began referring to each other as sisters) and little did either of us know it would result in something unexpected once we got back home...
The following weeks after returning from Payson Camp were tough on both Maria and myself because after we got back home from Utah (Maria went back to school immediately after we returned), we had never heard from or seen Ellen ever again (despite trying many times after getting home). Every time Maria asked her parents about Ellen's whereabouts or well-being, either her mother or father would tell her something different or nothing at all (which led us both wondering if something bad had happened between them). Luckily though, Maria soon stopped questioning her parents about Ellen once she started dating Mark again after only three weeks apart; which made me feel relieved because during those three weeks while Maria was single again, Maria became even more distant than ever before. It was almost like there was someone else living inside of Maria instead of herself; which made me wonder if it was Ellen who took over Maria's body whenever Mark wasn't around.
But thankfully everything seemed back to normal now - until yesterday afternoon when Maria's parents called me into their room while they were packing their luggage for tonight's anniversary party with friends at Uncle Jim's house (which also happens to be where Maria and I are right now). As soon as I walked into their room yesterday afternoon, Mrs. Sanchez suddenly turned around towards me and handed me some luggage before saying, "We're leaving early tomorrow morning so we don't want you or your sister waiting around for us in the morning." After thinking about this statement for a minute, Mr. Sanchez added with a chuckle "And besides, you'll probably get bored watching your sister sleep in any case." And just like that he shut his suitcase door closed and zipped it up before setting it down onto the floor next to his wife's suitcase; then he faced his wife and gave her a peck on the cheek before saying "Are you almost ready?" She smiled lovingly towards him before nodding affirmatively and handing him their keys so that he could drive them to Uncle Jim's house tonight. As they headed towards the front door of their bedroom together however, Mrs. Sanchez turned towards me one more time before saying with mock seriousness "Don't forget what papa said though." And just like that they left their bedroom together and made their way downstairs towards the front door before locking their house up tight so that they could hit the road for tonight's party.
