"I don't see why I have to go. It is just a bunch of old rocks. They say they use them to tell the time, but that's ridiculous. Time is something you know," the young prince said in his huffiest voice. He had been taught to puff himself up and speak with as much authority as possible.

The older man looked at him wearily, "Your father sent me to bring you along."

The young prince sat down on the large couch and crossed his arms impatiently. "Why do I have to be there? I'm sure he can get some other people to entertain his guests. I have more important matters to attend to back home." His voice was full of disdain for all things not related to himself.

"I'm sure he would rather hear what you have to say about those 'more important matters' than anything else."

"Well, maybe I don't want to tell him!" The young prince said in his most petulant voice. If he had been a child, he would have stomped on the floor and thrown a fit, but he was an adult now and he knew how childish that sort of behavior was. Still, he wanted the old man to think that he was childish so that he might leave him alone with his things and let him continue on with his life free of interruptions like this.

"I am under orders from your father, and if you wish it, I can take you there myself." The old man folded his hands together and stared at the young prince with very serious eyes, as though challenging him. The young prince stared right back at him, but eventually turned away when he realized that the old man wasn't going anywhere until they went together. He stood up and smoothed out his clothes theatrically before turning back towards the old man who was still sitting there patiently waiting for him. "Let's go."

They left together in silence and the young prince was glad that he didn't have to speak with this old man anymore because it meant that he wouldn't find out about any of his secrets or try to make him do anything else besides sit around looking pretty while everyone else talked about how great everything was. Sometimes he hated the people around him who seemed intent on telling him how great everything was instead of letting him live his own life as he pleased. He wanted more freedom than what they allowed him, but no one ever listened when he tried to explain things like that to them.
