Warring Souls: Ari & Marius in 15th Century America
·
Published 5/24/2023Caught in a passionate whirlwind of battling enemies and goblins, Ari - a daring half elf - must overcome both her complicated relationship with her long-lost relative and fight to restore balance to her kingdom while trying to survive the conflict.

"I'm not sure that's how this works, you know."
"How what works?"
"How our relationship is supposed to work."
"What are you talking about? God, woman, it's not like we have time for this!" Marius waved his hand as he continued walking down a forest path. "For the love of God, we just spent the night together! How can you be so clueless about something so important?"
Ari raised an eyebrow. "You're the one who doesn't get it. It's... oh my god." She stopped in her tracks and turned around to face Marius. "Wait a minute. Are you saying you don't know what a marriage is?" Ari couldn't believe what she was hearing. The man had just slept with her and he didn't know what a marriage meant? What kind of man was he? And yet, here they were, on the run from some awful-looking men who wanted to kill them and take over their kingdom. How could he not be serious about this whole thing?
"Of course I know what a marriage is," Marius replied defensively. He had already explained himself to her earlier that morning but apparently she needed another lecture on the subject of relationships. "But none of that matters right now! We have bigger problems than figuring out if we're married or not."
Ari took a deep breath and rubbed her temples with her fingers. Once again, they were going around in circles and she was tired of it all. She had more important things to worry about than whether or not she was married to the man standing in front of her right now.
"No," she said firmly. "We need to figure out if we're married first. Marriage is... marriage is very important." She looked at Marius pleadingly and crossed her arms in front of her chest while tapping her foot impatiently on the ground below her feet. Please understand, she thought desperately as she watched him carefully analyze her body language for a moment before answering back. Please understand me when I say that I don't know anything about you or about us or about our future together or about anything else for that matter but marriage is important because I don't want to be... please tell me we're married!
Marius sighed as he watched Ari pace back and forth in front of him in a huff, muttering under his breath about how serious marriage was and how it was important for them to figure out their situation before they moved forward with their plans to save their kingdom from evil people who didn't care whether or not they were married, because apparently making sure two people were married wasn't as important as killing everyone else in the kingdom so they could take it over and rule with an iron fist until everyone else died out of starvation or whatever horrible ends evil people like that usually had planned once they finally got enough power to do whatever they wanted with absolutely no repercussions whatsoever because nobody cared enough to stop them beforehand except these two people: Ari and Marius, who were apparently so clueless about love and relationships and sex (Ari), and war strategy (Marius), that they didn't even realize how much danger they were both in right now because seriously who even thinks about getting married during times like these?
Ari sighed at Marius' long-winded rant and nodded enthusiastically along with everything he said until he finally finished talking and looked at her expectantly for a response. "Right," she said quickly, nodding emphatically as she struggled to keep up with his train of thought which honestly seemed like it was running away from him at full speed without him even realizing where it was going or when it would slow down to catch its breath because goodness gracious this man could talk fast sometimes! "Yes," she continued hastily once again, drawing out the word as if trying to convince herself that everything Marius had just said actually made sense despite sounding like complete gibberish to her ears (not surprising considering she didn't understand anything he was saying). "Marriage is very important." She gave him a quick smile before continuing: "That's why we need to get back home soon!"
