"So my friend, you want to find El Dorado, the city of gold?"

I looked at my new travelling companion across the table. He was a jolly man, round and bald with a bright red nose. He was dressed in a fine blue suit with matching hat and cane. I had met him only moments ago on the ship we were both taking to South America to begin our great adventures.

"Well, I can't promise you gold, but I can promise you adventure! It's a long way down there but there is amazing stuff along the way."

"I'm afraid my friend that this will not be an easy trip. The jungle is no place for the faint hearted."

"Not even for a man who has been to Hell and back?"

He laughed out loud. "You have been to Hell? What was it like?"

"It was boring; nothing ever happened there. But I escaped and made friends on the way."

"Good luck with that in the jungle. There are some beasts there that would make Satan pee himself."

We continued our conversation until the ship began to dock in Argentina. "Well my friend, let us set off!" I said, grabbing my pack and following him off the ship. Then he stopped me, turning me around so that I was facing him. A look of concern crossed his face before he spoke again:

"Listen Ignacio, there is something I think you should know. Before you go into this jungle, there are things that...well...I don't want you to get angry."

What? What could possibly be worse than the Devil? I thought to myself. Why would I ever get upset about anything after all the things I have seen?

I was about to ask him what he meant when he continued. "There are places otherwise known as 'Conquistador cities', where European explorers used to live in this area during the 15th century." Shoot. Those fiends left me for dead in Hell and here they are ruining my vacation too! "Here, take this letter and give it to Father Diego in any one of these towns." Thanks for telling me now! "He will know what to do if you need help." Great! Thanks buddy. Let's see how much easier it will be with a priest on call. You remember those guys right? They were selling indulgences while we were burning witches at the stake. Maybe they'll sell me one too! "Good luck my friend!" And with that he waved goodbye and set off towards Buenos Aires while I headed north towards Bolivia.

As soon as I left Buenos Aires behind me, it became clear that my friend had not been exaggerating when he talked about jungles...

And then something extraordinary occurred. An icy chill ran up my spine as an unusual wind weaved through the trees. Eerie noises echoed within the forest, followed by an abrupt silence. The sky shrouded in darkness, dimming earlier than expected. Glancing upward, instead of seeing Buenos Aires, I saw stars bright against the black canvas of space—a sight that should have been impossible underneath the jungle's thick canopy. The stars seemed to converge, forming lines and patterns that crafted an ethereal golden city above an endless, fathomless ocean.

El Dorado. El Dorado! Finally, after years of searching, it was within reach! Tears of joy filled my eyes, and I was overwhelmed with excitement. But then, unease crept into my thoughts: the unsettling feeling of being watched while gazing upon this otherworldly vision. I was unaware of the danger approaching me from behind, and of the fate that would change my life forever.

Then, from the dark abyss, a creature swooped down—screeching and roaring like some primordial predator starved for human flesh. As it closed in on me, I heard the sound of its sobbing grow soft, almost like a tragic lament.

Standing there, witnessing the incredible vision of El Dorado and the terrifying creature bearing down on me, I realized that my journey into the jungle would be unlike any adventure I had ever experienced.
