Chancellor Crofton looked out over the sea of faces as the King finished his speech. Each face was in awe, some even in tears. The King had done it. The ban on magic had been lifted, and mages were free to roam Urovia once again. The Chancellor sighed, and turned to King Irvin IV.

"It was a very moving speech Your Highness." Crofton said, bowing slightly. "The people will treasure it forever."

"Yes, quite." Irvin replied. "Now they can finally see that I'm not a tyrant who would imprison them for something they cannot control."

"Of course not." Crofton said, smiling at the thought of all the people who could now practice magic freely without fear of persecution by the King's guard. Mages wouldn't have to hide their talents any more, and could finally live like the rest of the Urovians. It was a spectacular turn of events, and many would be thankful to have such a just ruler as King Irvin IV at their head.

Suddenly, there was a loud explosion from inside the castle. A sharp crack rang out across the crowd, followed by another explosion even louder than before. Screams began to sound out as panic spread through the crowd. The Chancellor rushed towards the castle, desperately scanning for an entrance he could enter through.

Another explosion rang out, this time far too close for comfort. The Chancellor felt a sharp pain in his arm as he was thrown to the ground by the blast wave from behind him. He rolled over onto his back, looking up towards the source of the sound that had knocked him down earlier. His eyes went wide in terror as he saw what appeared to be giant metal walls falling around him, each one only narrowly missing him as they crashed into trees and buildings around him. A large armored figure stood in front of him, holding a large staff made of what seemed to be wood with a crystal embedded at its top. As Crofton watched in horror, a bright beam shot out of its end and hit one of the falling walls directly in its center mass. The beam continued on past the wall without slowing down or losing strength until it struck another one behind it and continued on again until it had struck every single one of them at least once each before fading away into nothingness. All that remained within Crofton's vision were large craters surrounded by rubble and debris where once these massive metal walls had stood only moments ago. He turned his head towards where he thought he heard footsteps heading towards him, but there was only silence after that last deafening blast rang out across the city limits.. Not even birds chirped any more; they were all dead or hiding from whatever had caused this destruction so abruptly...
