Marcy Wu and the Alien Symbiote
·
Published 5/25/2023Tormented by inner darkness, Marcy Wu must battle her newfound powers and the fear of her peers in order to control an alien symbiote and keep peace in an unknown fantasy world.

"Hey Marcy, have you heard about the new student?"
"I'm not sure James. I've been a bit busy with this project."
"Well he just walked into class, no one even had a chance to look up. He strolled right in and took a seat next to me. It was the most amazing thing I've ever seen."
"Yeah, yeah, cool story James, what's he like?"
"Well you know how I said it was amazing? Well it wasn't really all that amazing. I mean yeah, he's cute, but that's about it. He didn't do anything cool or impressive or any of that teenage cliche stuff you'd expect from an alien."
"Oh! He's an alien!"
"Yeah... anyway so there I am looking at him and his clothes are weird, real shiny black material and all this gold embroidery. I guess he doesn't get cold or something."
"What did he wear?"
"You know those fancy robes they wear on TV shows that are supposed to be ancient Chinese or whatever? Yeah like that."
"So what did he do? Talk in some strange language? Shoot fireballs out of his eyes?"
"Nah dude nothing like that at all. He sat down at his desk and stared at Ms. Minter while she went over her lesson plan for the year with us. Eventually she noticed him and asked him to introduce himself to the class. So he stands up and says "Hello everyone. My name is M'chraan-Zhul and I am pleased to meet you all." And just when my jaw was about to hit the floor someone shouts out "He's got a lisp!" And everyone goes crazy laughing."
Try as she might Marcy couldn't help but laugh along with them too. The whole scene sounded ridiculous, like something from a bad B grade movie or something! She imagined the alien sitting there with his big red lips pouting out those words because he must have had those big sharp teeth hidden away beneath those lips somewhere. That thought alone made her laugh even harder than before until tears were streaming down her face. It took her several minutes before she managed to calm down enough to ask him another question.
"So um... why did you come here?" she asked once she had regained her composure somewhat. James looked over at her curiously then shrugged off her question as if it were painfully obvious.
"Why do aliens go anywhere? To conquer galaxy one star system at a time of course!"
"You think this is a conquest?" she asked incredulously, gesturing around them at the boring school room they sat in as if it were some sort of grand monument built by aliens for their own entertainment instead of for education purposes only! James shrugged again.
"Well yeah duh! Why else would he be here?" Marcy rolled her eyes and put her head into her hands exasperatedly as James continued on with his strange account of events earlier today in class. She knew they weren't friends or anything but their parents had known each other forever so they were bound together in some way indirectly through friendship circles whether either one liked it or not! Besides they both shared an interest in fantasy novels and movies which made them kindred spirits of sorts due to their mutual disdain for the more girly series of books that most girls enjoyed such as twilight and 50 shades of gray** among others. It was because of these similarities that Marcy decided to share lunch with James even though most people found his antics unbearable sometimes (as evidenced by their earlier conversation).
