"So, this is it?"

I look back at Jake and nod. "This is it."

"No turning back now, then."

Jake looks at me silently for a moment before he nods. He puts his hand on my shoulder and offers me a smile. I return the gesture. This isn't easy for either of us. We're not just leaving our home behind, we're leaving everything we know, our family, our friends... all that's familiar to us. But we have to. If we want to be free to live as we want without worrying about being hunted down by the authorities, then this is what we need to do. No one else can know about this place or what we're about to do here or the whole thing will be for nothing. The only people who should know are the two of us and whoever else joins us on this new journey of ours.

"It'll be okay," Jake says. "We're going to be fine." He pauses and pats my shoulder again before giving me another smile. "Everything's gonna be okay."

I nod again and look back at the small clearing in front of me where I'll start digging our future home. It's not much of a clearing but it's enough for us to set up a new life in with no one else knowing what's going on here until it's too late for them to stop us. This won't take long, neither of us are skilled builders and there are no tools except for our hands but still...

"All right," I say as I kneel down next to the patch of ground I've chosen as the spot for my little hovels foundation. "Let's get started."
