Pio's Quest for Kingship
·
Published 3/15/2023In 15th century Italy, a brave, determined rodent named Pio embarks on an epic quest across a distant solar system in search of empowerment, only to ultimately face a difficult choice between claiming his ambition or sacrificing it for a greater cause of peace and prosperity.
The sun shone brightly upon Pio as he sat on the hillside, enjoying the scent of the flowers and the coolness of his drink. It was a day off, and as such, he’d decided to spend it relaxing in the fields. His work was hard, but at least today he could rest.
He had been working for several years now, ever since he arrived at this planet. The first few years were spent learning about the new world around him; about the plants and animals, about how the world worked and how to live within it. The other mice from his family had left to explore other worlds after only a few months of learning, but Pio knew that there was more to learn here than anywhere else. He wanted to learn everything about this world: about how it was made, why it existed – what brought it into existence? He had read many works written by other mice who had visited this world before, from many different planets; some claimed that this world was always here, others that it had been created by a great God or Goddess. Either way, their ideas all seemed so distant from what Pio could see with his own eyes.
The trees didn’t seem very old; they were still growing strongly and producing new leaves every season. The mountains were still being pushed up by the tectonic plates deep beneath them – not like on his home planet where they were worn down over time by wind and rain. If this world wasn’t created by a god or goddess then how was it made? How did all these things come into existence? Pio couldn’t find any answers in any of his books or from talking to other mice – so he started digging deeper into the earth himself.
It took him many years of digging through rocks and soil before he finally found something that looked like an answer: a dead mouse covered in strange markings and patterns; markings unlike anything seen before on any planet in this universe.
He couldn’t be certain though – maybe it just looked that way because it was trapped under layers of rock? So he kept digging through more layers of soil until he found another mouse; and another; and another – each one looking more like the last than the previous one. He kept digging deeper through layer after layer until eventually he reached a place where no more mice were buried – just a hole full of smashed rocks, cracked bones and broken pieces of metal. And there, lying on top of all these things was a large round object with many markings on its surface – markings which reminded him most of writing from home. It was then that Pio realised that these dead mice must have been buried here long ago by someone else who lived on this planet long before Pio arrived here; someone who must have dug deep into the ground like himself.
After another year of learning about life around him Pio felt ready to move on again – to travel back out into space and make his own discoveries. But without an engine strong enough to get him home again, his journey would have to end here once more.
There must be an engine somewhere else around here though – one that could take him back home again! There must be something better than these simple machines which ran all his machines back at base camp; something made by those smart alien mice who came here long before Pio did – those who built all those buildings underground and left their messages written in strange symbols throughout many different places across the globe! Surely they wouldn’t leave a better engine behind just lying uselessly somewhere unprotected! So every day for several years Pio set out with his tools once more from his camp in search of an engine strong enough for his purpose; strong enough for him to leave this place at last!
After yet another year of searching for an engine he finally found something worthy for his machine back home: an alien machine far stronger and faster than any engine which could be found elsewhere on this world or any other! With its power Pio quickly began constructing a ship capable of getting him home again at last! But as he worked harder every day building this ship he began to realise that something wasn’t right: The more energy went into constructing this ship the more energy was taken away from everything else around him; first from his tools then from the tools themselves then even from the soil beneath his feet! He could feel himself getting weaker day after day as if being drained away somehow by this strange machine hidden underground somewhere nearby! Then one day when looking down at his hands working away at some metal parts for his ship he suddenly realised what had happened: These aliens had left behind their own bodies buried beneath the ground when they died so long ago; bodies which contained much energy inside them still waiting to be released! And now with their bodies buried deep underground they were using him instead as a medium in order to release their energy back up into the light once more! They hadn’t left behind any engines after all but instead used Pio himself as their surrogate source of power instead!
Pio ran back quickly to camp knowing now what had happened but unable to stop it - unable even to warn anyone else about what was happening around them either! He packed everything up as quickly as possible hoping desperately that whatever energy they might take from him they would do so quickly before draining too much away from him forever leaving him weak and powerless forever afterwards! He knew nothing else could be done now except leave quickly before it was too late.
The next morning Pio left camp carrying with him only what he needed most dearly along with some fresh food supplies for travelling back out into space once more towards Earth – hopefully with enough strength left inside himself for one final journey there before dying alone amongst alien stars far away from home...
