Bravechii and the Unseen Land

"You know what you have to do"

At those words, a cold shiver ran down my spine. I buried my head into my pillow.

I thought about the deal I had struck with that strange old woman. In exchange for her guidance, I had agreed to bring back to life a couple who were killed by bandits. My mother had often told me stories of encounters with witches and warlocks: she never told me they could be so helpful! But now that I was here, I was not sure if this was the right thing to do. Sure, they deserved to live again, but at what cost?

A sharp knock on the door snapped me out of my thoughts. "Hey, are you awake?" It was my friend Olivia. She sounded worried. "The sun's just risen, we should start soon."

It took us hours to leave the town that had been my home for most of my life. We walked in silence through the fields and forests until we reached a large forest: it was too dense to pass through. So we decided to camp there and wait until dusk before continuing our journey. As night fell, we started walking again until we reached a small clearing where an old woman stood waiting for us with her back turned towards us. "Follow me." An eerie blue glow illuminated her face as she turned around and walked on ahead of us with no hesitation whatsoever. We followed her as best we could despite being unable to see more than a few feet ahead of us due to the thick fog that filled the air and obscured our vision. The only light came from the witch's lantern which seemed like it was made out of human bones: its fire burned an unnatural greenish-yellow colour which gave off almost no heat at all meaning that it didn't help dispel the cold fog in any way at all.

We stumbled along in a daze for what felt like hours when suddenly she stopped abruptly in front of us causing us all to collide with each other in a heap on top of each other and then fall over onto our backsides as well as hitting our heads on something hard that we couldn't see because of the fog as well as the fact that we couldn't see anything because our eyes were closed after having hit them on whatever it was that caused us to fall over in the first place.

"Okay." said the witch gruffly "are you all going to stay still or are you going to keep doing that?" There was a murmur of assent from amongst us and then nothing but silence broken only by distant howls of wolves echoing through the darkness around us that sounded close enough to be right next to us as well as creepy enough so that they didn't feel like they were right next to us even though they actually never got closer than a few metres away from us at any point throughout our journey within this awful forest which simply went on without end and without any sign whatsoever of where exactly we were or whether or not we would ever actually get out of this place alive!

But then suddenly the witch spoke up again: "Right then, get up now." She began walking away again into the fog which seemed like it had thickened even further since we last saw her which meant that even though she hadn't gone very far out of sight at all, she couldn't be seen anymore at all so we began following her voice instead and somehow during this process ended up bumping into each other again until eventually one of us shouted out "Ouch!" at which point someone replied "Will you stop tripping over everything?" At which point another person said "No wonder everyone keeps tripping over everything if you keep shouting out every time someone touches something!" And then another person shouted out "Why don't you just shut your mouth instead?!" And so on and so forth until eventually Olivia screamed out loud enough for everyone else in our group (which included me) to hear "Shut up!!!" long enough for everyone else in our group (which still included me) who could hear her voice (which only included me) to hear what she said (which was just "Shut up!!") long enough for everyone else in our group (which still included me) who heard her voice say "Shut up!!" (which only included me) long enough for everyone else in our group (which still included me) who heard her voice say "Shut up!!" (which only included me) long enough for everyone else in our group (which still included me) who heard her voice say "Shut up!!" (which only included me) long enough for everyone else in our group (which still included me) who heard her voice say "Shut up!!"
