The first thing that I remember is the pain. The pain, and the sound of waves lapping against my body. I must have woken up at some point, though I can't remember when.

I'm lying on my stomach--not something I'd usually do--and my clothes are soaked through. I'm wearing a long-sleeved t-shirt and jeans, with hiking boots on my feet. My arms are folded under me, so I can feel the heavy fabric of my shirt pressing against the small of my back.

My face is pressed into the sand, and as I open my eyes to look around, I realize that water is all around me. I'm surrounded by it, in fact; or maybe it's just all a hallucination. It's hard to tell.

More waves lap against me, and I'm suddenly very cold. My eyes flick back and forth as I try to get a sense of where I am. My vision isn't too clear, but it looks like there might be some kind of structure nearby.

I shift around until I'm partially sitting up--it hurts like hell--and look towards the structure again. It's a stone wall, which looks very old, with a gap in it where the ocean is flowing through...which means that there's probably some kind of beach beyond it! If that's true then maybe someone else is here! But how do I get to it? Does an old wall surround the entire beach?

The sun has risen high enough in the sky for me to see clearly now; the water is still cold but not quite as bad as before. More waves flow over me as another tide comes in, and again the pain spikes through me like someone jabbing a knife into my spine every time one passes over my body. My head feels light and dizzy as a result, which makes it hard to think; but I push past that and try to focus on what needs to be done instead of how bad everything feels.

I can hear seabirds calling out overhead; if they're flying above this wall then there must be more than just an ocean outside of it! That makes me more certain that there's a beach beyond this stone barrier; otherwise they wouldn't be there! And if there was no beach then they would have flown away already...so there must *be* somewhere else beyond this wall! Right?

Taking a few deep breaths to steady myself, I lean forward onto all fours and start crawling towards the wall...pausing whenever another wave comes along so that I don't get knocked over from behind by one while trying to pull myself forward with only two limbs under me at any given time. It seems like it takes forever to reach the wall before finally struggling to my feet again and gripping tightly onto the stones while looking around frantically for an opening large enough for me to fit through without being swept out into deeper waters on the other side of it.

There doesn't appear to be any way across short of swimming through with the waves or climbing over top of the wall directly above where they break against it; neither option sounds very good right now, especially considering how tired and sore everything already feels after what little work getting here has already been. But if there's even just an outside chance of reaching land before dark then that seems worth fighting through whatever pain or fatigue might come from doing so! It might also be possible for me to find shelter near where I am now...but if there really are birds above then hopefully some kind of civilization will exist further along! After all, people will want to build their homes near places with food sources, which these birds would certainly provide! So hopefully others will live somewhere close by too!

I grip tighter onto the stones beneath my hands for support and lift myself up onto them using my arms instead of putting weight on my legs...which scream angrily in response at being forced into such an unnatural position after having been wet for so long already. Once up onto one foot however everything starts feeling better almost immediately; being upright helps give me more strength and energy, which makes carrying myself across easier despite being painful at first when stepping down again with each movement forward towards land instead of just staying standing upright while moving slowly forwards directly towards land itself instead. At least doing this way puts less strain on both legs at once so that walking seems easier after only a little while longer; but it also puts more strain on my arms than standing upright would have done, which makes holding onto the wall harder still once things start getting difficult because *everything* hurts so much right now!

Just about all thoughts about anything else disappear from my mind after only a few minutes past that point...though somehow I manage to keep moving forwards without simply giving up and collapsing from exhaustion or from falling off whatever ledge or cliff edge these stones are part of! Before too long however everything starts looking brighter ahead of me...like when you wake up early in wintertime before sunrise because you had trouble sleeping due to being cold enough in your bed despite wearing many layers even though you know summer shouldn't be ending yet because it isn't until later today yet still got cold anyway because you're old now so maybe even your body thinks summer should already have ended already too otherwise why bother going through all these motions anymore since everyone knows what time of year it is anyway if not exactly *when* at least? Or something like that anyway; just sounds *bright* is all!
