Asha's Stand
·
Published 3/14/2023When a seemingly wealthy and egocentric man propositions Asha, a brave young LGBTQIA woman, in an isolated bar during 4th century BCE, her courage is tested as she progresses on a journey of identity and acceptance - by embracing his offer and reclaiming her power.
"You know what I like about you?"
"What's that?"
"Your smile. It's like a ray of sunshine breaking through the clouds."
"Aww, thank you." She smiled again and took a sip from her drink. "I didn't really think it was that good," she admitted. "I can't believe you noticed it."
"Well, I did. You're beautiful, but you're also nice. And I'm not just saying that. I've known some girls who are as pretty as you are but they're bitches. You're really sweet and genuine."
She blushed again and thanked him for the compliment. He was handsome too, and he had been eyeing her all night. He was playing pool with his friends when she came in but left them to come talk to her. She wasn't sure if he was flirting or just being nice, but either way she liked his company and was pleasantly surprised by how easy he made her feel.
He got up to get them both another drink and she watched him walk over to the bar and order their drinks. She looked around at the other patrons; a few people were just eating dinner while others were getting drunk. While they waited on their drinks, he walked back over to where she sat, but instead of sitting next to her this time, he plopped down in front of her on the floor and rested his elbows on his knees, looking up at her expectantly. She furrowed her brows at him and met his gaze, trying to read what he wanted from her but he just kept staring at her until she caved in and asked what he wanted. "What is it?" she asked quietly so that only he could hear her over the music playing in the background and the conversations around them. He smiled softly at her response and then leaned forward a little more and gave her a quick kiss on the lips before sitting back up straight again with his arms resting on his knees once more. He let out a sigh as if he were relieved for something before smiling up at her again. "I like kissing you too," he said with a soft smile. "I'd like to do more than kiss you too." She laughed at how blunt he was, thankful for his honesty over how some men would try to skirt around what they meant, not wanting to offend someone or make them uncomfortable when all they really wanted was sex from them. Her eyes widened in surprise when she realized what he said and even though she wasn't surprised that he wanted more than kisses from her (he did offer himself to her after all), it caught her off guard that he would be so open about it with someone he had only known for an hour or so. Then again, maybe that was why; because they weren't strangers anymore so why sugar coat anything? She bit down on the inside of her lip as she thought over whether she wanted to go further with him or not; should they even consider going any further at all? Wasn't this moving too quickly? But then again this was already pretty far outside of the box for their first date together...and there were no strings attached (not that it technically counted as a date). But still--this didn't feel quite right either, did it? Maybe it would be better if they just went back to talking again because things were getting really intense really fast here and she wasn't sure how much more of this she could take without needing some time to process everything that was happening between them now--or worse--fucking up and making one or both of them regret any decisions made tonight...
