**Entering the Game**

Noelle and I stood in line for the new VR game. My birthday was only a few days away, so I figured she could kill some time while we waited. She looked really bored, but I knew it wouldn't be long before we were busy with all sorts of quests and adventures.

"I can't believe they're actually charging people to play this stupid game," Noelle whined. "How lame do you have to be to pay someone $90 for a 3 hour experience? This is definitely going to suck."

I rolled my eyes at her. "It's not that expensive, and it's supposed to be like nothing else."

"Yeah right!" she scoffed. "What could possibly be more boring than having to walk around and talk to NPCs?"

I shrugged at her, not really wanting to admit how excited I was. I was used to Noelle's cynical attitude; everyone at school agreed with her opinion on pretty much everything. Still, she had a point about what we were about to do.

We finally made it through security and got up to the front of the line. The two employees there were both wearing headsets, so they couldn't hear us as we approached. They were both staring straight ahead at a blank wall that was slightly out of place from the rest of the store's decor. Obviously they were looking into the VR world instead of at us.

"Excuse me," I said quietly, tapping one employee on his shoulder. He jumped in surprise when he saw us standing there, then smiled broadly and took off his headset.

"We're ready for our adventure," I said with a smile, holding up my receipt from earlier in the line.
