Pink Bows and Pigtails: Waqee's Journey to Acceptance

The early morning light was timidly trying to get into the room without waking people up.

The rays of sun seemed to be very scared of entering their room and they were looking left and right before getting into their room.

They were like a naughty kid who is trying to enter his friend’s house with a toy in the middle of the night.

Waqee was awake at the early morning and he was trying to find a way how to get out of his warm cot without being noticed by his mother.

He slowly got out of bed and he went into his mother’s room while wearing a pink dress. He decided not to wear diapers today as it is too early to get them wet. He quietly slipped behind his mother’s back and ran towards the bathroom. He started peeing loudly after closing the door from inside but he quickly realised that it was too loud and he tried to keep himself quiet. Luckily for him, he had been doing this for so many days that it became easy for him to do it quietly.

He then quickly washed his hands and went for breakfast. His mother was still sleeping and she didn’t realise what her son just did half an hour ago.

She was tired from doing most of her work in night shifts yesterday because her husband asked her not to disturb him when he wanted to sleep during day time.

She was happy because she knew that even if she gave birth to a girl, she would have loved her unconditionally just like how she loved Waqee. She felt bad for her husband because even though he loves his son, he still refused to accept him as his own son. Instead, he always wanted Waqee to be more like a girl than a boy because that was how he wanted his daughter to be like before she died during childbirth. But thankfully, everything worked out well for her and she had no regrets about it.

When Waqee came in front of the kitchen, he saw that there were two plates on the table; one for him and the other one for his father who slept in the living room last night because he had some problems with insomnia when he slept alone at home. She made sure that both plates have equal amount of food so that no one gets hurt unintentionally through trivial matters such as these which can ruin their relationship as a family forever. She served breakfast for both her sons yesterday so that no one gets hurt but now things have changed because Waqee doesn’t need food anymore since there are no good schools where you can learn anything about eating food properly! So there is only one plate required now which is given to Waqee’s father every morning by her wife lovingly. She was always happy whenever she looked at him eating food while not getting any on his clothes or on the table so if only men got pregnant, they wouldn’t need special clothes or extra large sized clothes just like people think women should wear just like how they think we should live our lives instead of them! If only men gave birth to babies, then we would have seen all those rules changing overnight!

Waqee ate silently but soon enough, someone started banging on the door violently making sure everyone in their apartment building could hear it clearly! It was none other than Waqee’s grandmother who lived next door with her son-in-law! The banging continued until Waqee’s father opened the door angrily asking why she was disturbing everyone else today! Grandma shouted loudly that even though everyone is already up, they are still sleeping while her grandson has already got ready so why doesn’t everyone else wake up? What’s wrong with all of you? Are you all dead? You should feel ashamed of yourselves!

Waqee’s father angrily closed the door again as grandma kept shouting at everyone in their apartment building! It didn’t matter whether anyone listened or not; it was about time everyone else woke up from their slumber!

If only men got pregnant then we would see things change overnight!
