The water was warm and inviting, the sun delightfully warm on her skin. Anna took a few steps forward and plunged into the water, the coolness of it sending a shiver down her spine. She kicked her feet under the surface and waved her arms in the air, letting out an excited giggle. She had been practicing for weeks now, and she was finally at the point where she could do this on her own.

"Mom! Look at me! I can swim by myself!" Anna said as she turned around and started treading water. Her mother smiled with pride and took a step closer to the edge of the pool. Anna noticed that all of her friends were here too, along with their mothers. It was a beautiful summer day, so everyone wanted to be outside and enjoy themselves. Anna felt like she had just made a huge accomplishment. She loved swimming, but she did not want to be one of those children who was afraid to get in the pool alone. Now that she could do it all on her own, she felt like a real big girl.

A sudden splash behind her caused Anna to turn around, only to see another child jumping into the pool from the diving board. He hit the water hard, sending ripples across the surface of the pool. A young woman jumped over him to try and save him from drowning, but even before she hit the water, Anna knew it was too late for both of them. The situation escalated quickly; next thing Anna knew there were men in suits running into the area with guns drawn. "Get down!" someone yelled as people scattered in confusion all around them.

Anna's mother grabbed onto her arm tightly as they ran deeper into the water to keep themselves hidden from view. Anna kept treading water while her mother held on tight, trying to stay afloat under it all while also keeping herself hidden from view by staying underwater as much as possible. They were too far away from anyone else for anyone to even notice them; if they stayed quiet and out of sight, they would be fine.

Anna's heart was pounding in her chest as she searched for signs of trouble around them while at the same time trying not to take a breath that would cause bubbles to rise up through the water's surface; any small sign of movement or sound could give them away right now and cost them their lives. Instead, her ears perked up when someone started yelling about hostages being taken; everyone needed to remain still until help arrived lest they risk getting shot by mistake. Even if these terrorists got what they wanted from these people here today at this private school, no one was going home without leaving behind plenty of casualties in their wake. That meant that staying quiet was absolutely critical at this point in time; unfortunately that meant also remaining underwater without breathing for far longer than anyone expected them to have to keep floating like this for so long without taking a breath; even worse yet was that no one really knew how long that would last before someone started drowning or passed out from lack of oxygen within their lungs since none of them had ever experienced something like this before today...

Finally Anna felt hands grab hold of her arms and pull her up out of the water; it was so dark under here that no one would have noticed two pairs of arms holding onto one person before they reached up towards the surface herself where light shone through once more from above their heads; she gasped for air greedily as soon as she surfaced back up into freedom again after all this time spent underwater trying not to breathe for fear of giving herself away or worse yet dying in this pool due to lack of oxygen within their lungs... She saw that there were several police officers moving towards them now with guns raised above their heads while others were moving towards some other people huddled together nearby with rifles pointed right at them; clearly they intended on taking care of these bad guys once and for all before they could do more damage here today...

"Oh my God..." Anna's mother said simply beside her daughter as they both watched intently at what transpired next... Between shivers brought on by shock and coldness lingering within their bones over what just occurred here today under such unexpected circumstances, neither one could find any words right now... Anyone who thought terrorism didn't exist any longer within modern society clearly hadn't seen what just happened here with their own eyes today...
