"So, how'd you two meet?" Cindy asked.

"That's a funny story actually," said Marcus. "He was at the bar with some other guy and they were just hitting on everyone there."

Cindy giggled. "Marcus, are you serious? So he just went up to everyone like that?"

"Well, it wasn't like that," I said. "We were just talking to some girls--"

"And you couldn't control yourselves!" Marcus interrupted. "You broke away from these poor women who probably wanted nothing to do with us and ran over to us."

Cindy giggled again as she took a sip of her drink. "You guys are so silly." She rested her hand on my arm and leaned in close. I could smell her perfume. "I'm sure they didn't mind too much," she whispered.

I smiled at her and took another sip of my drink. It was good scotch, but I had never been a fan of whisky or any other liquor that scorched my throat when I drank it straight. It was one of the few things I had in common with Marcus, though his tastes in alcohol were far more refined than mine. We had met in college when we were both freshmen, and he always tried to get me to try new drinks and learn about different kinds of wine, but I just wasn't interested in it. He'd spent most of our time together trying to convert me into a connoisseur of fine liquors, but I'm afraid I'd have to disappoint him yet again and stay true to the beers that lay my soul bare every evening after work.

Cindy put her arm around mine and squeezed it a little tighter against her waist. She was very attractive--a bit older than me by a couple years, with long blonde hair that fell down from behind her ears like curtains framing a window stuck halfway open on a hot summer day--but given the circumstances, there really wasn't much for me to do here other than sit back and let Marcus play wingman for once. He was always happy to step up and act as my wingman; hell, sometimes he even tried too hard to help out when there was no need, like tonight when he invited this girl along with us out on the town only an hour after meeting her himself at work earlier that day. It was all very sweet of him if a bit unnecessary, but what can you do? He's my oldest friend outside of family, and it was nice to have someone I could trust watching my back in situations like this where all kinds of strange women wanted to pull me away from decent people like Cindy for their own selfish reasons.

After another hour or so of drinking together, Cindy decided she wanted to go home early because she felt sick from the alcohol. As we walked out onto the busy street with her arm around mine and Marcus following behind us holding an umbrella over our heads to keep the rain off our heads while we hailed a cab home through the torrential downpour that seemed determined not to stop anytime soon, Marcus turned around at me and whispered under his breath: "She's not feeling well because she doesn't want you alone with her in public right now." He leaned in closer so he wouldn't be heard by Cindy over the wind and rain blowing hard against our faces outside on the street corner where we stood waiting for a taxi cab that might be willing to brave this storm for enough money if we were lucky enough not to be stranded out here all night without shelter from this damn monsoon going on outside tonight!

"What? Why would you say that?" I asked him quietly as we waited for something--anything--to happen out here beside us on this dark street corner so far away from home where things didn't begin until after midnight anyway unless you happened to be at one of those stupid clubs where they thought 2 am was an appropriate time for anyone's bedtime! Marcus shrugged his shoulders as he watched people trying unsuccessfully to flag down cabs as they drove by at speeds only slightly less dangerous than reckless driving through this weather right now! He opened his umbrella wider as if he might catch one himself instead of waiting around until one decided it might be worth stopping for us!

"Look at that fool," he said suddenly as he pointed down the street towards another man walking past us holding an umbrella over his head forcing many people walking past him into the street or else they risked getting soaked by driving cars going past them way too fast through water deep enough now that people driving cars began slowing down instead of speeding forward faster wherever possible! "That guy is asking for a ticket tonight if anybody sees him doing that!"

I looked over at where Marcus was pointing, unable to see anything since water had gotten inside my eyes somehow making it impossible for me to look anywhere in front of me without blinking hard trying desperately not to let tears fall where people might see them if they happened to look my direction! Where had all this water come from anyway? The sky hadn't changed its appearance since we left Marcus' apartment earlier tonight before meeting Cindy here at this bar where we got talking about things too personal between friends perhaps which led painfully quickly into conversations which made me want nothing more than escape immediately before something bad happened between us three! Fortunately though, Cindy seemed quite taken by Marcus--and even more fortunately so did I!--so there wasn't much risk involved having him along with us tonight aside from some small embarrassment which would hopefully pass quickly once everything returned back to normal between us all once again!

The taxi cab pulled up beside us eventually with its light spinning round and round indicating someone inside wanted desperately out into the rain hoping they didn't end up drenched during their brief ride home through these stormy streets full of drivers who did not care whether anyone's lives were being threatened by driving recklessly through waters swirling dangerously around their tires threatening cars every moment with potential disaster! Inevitably though, somebody ended up being swept away into darkness regardless whether they'd been careful or not because no matter how careful people tried being tonight out there driving their cars through floods even worse than these raging winds whipping insanely against everyone unlucky enough still outside amidst this terrible typhoon-like storm tonight nobody would ever avoid running into trouble eventually!

Inside the taxi cab later on after changing clothes back at our apartment safely away from prying eyes who wanted nothing more than watch someone else drown today especially during conditions like these when nobody could avoid getting caught up in danger somewhere no matter how careful they tried being all night long under worsening conditions outside growing increasingly worse as each second passed bringing storms closer together making each new one seem worse than its predecessor during what felt like hours now already gone forever leaving behind only memories which faded slowly further disappearing into darkness each passing minute further weakening their hold upon my memory making them harder each second longer before fading completely into oblivion finally never again returning after fading fully into emptiness leaving behind nothing except mere traces which were themselves forgotten moments later leaving behind nothing but empty space on display until someone else brought back into being everything once again filling those spaces but taking things further along towards places unknown perhaps until these spaces became filled again leading elsewhere yet again filled once more becoming empty once more leading somewhere entirely different until every moment contained within these infinite line stretching infinitely forward towards unthinkable possibilities contained
