On our first date, my wife kept grabbing my hand. We were at a movie theater and she was constantly holding my hand, rubbing her thumb on the back of my hand, etc..

She was so cute. I adored her.

That night I thought to myself, "I want to be with her all the time." That was it. No big love story or anything like that. I just wanted to be with her as much as possible because she made me happy and she was beautiful.

So I asked her out again. And again. And again. Until we started dating seriously and then eventually got married. At first we both wanted the same things; a nice house, a family, security... you know the drill.

But after two years of marriage, I didn't feel secure anymore. We had traded in trying to save for a house for a boat loan on something more exciting/luxurious/fun/etc..

We blew through all of our savings chasing this dream of having a boat because we thought that's what we should do: buy a boat and sail around the world! We spent all of our money on this endeavor and barely managed to pay off the boat loan before Katy gave birth to our daughter, Lizzie. After Lizzie was born though, Katy just started getting more depressed about not being able to work and so on. I tried to help but I didn't know how to help someone who just doesn't want to be helped...

So here we are five years later: me with a boring 9-5 job in an office while Katy stays at home with Lizzie who is now 5 years old (and yeah, still no baby #2). We've gotten into this routine where every Friday night (really Sunday morning) we go out for drinks together (because Sunday mornings are so much better than Saturday nights right?) followed by some Jack In The Box breakfast tacos because they're such a rarity nowadays (which is probably why they taste so good). But despite those fun outings, Katy's depression lingers and I'm stuck wondering what could change that...

"Hey babe," said Katy as she walked through the door late Saturday night. She plopped down next to me on the couch and handed me a drink before taking hers in hand. She looked tired and worn out but still as beautiful as ever in her black dress and gold jewelry that glowed against her tan skin...

"Aren't you tired?" I asked her softly. "You look tired."

"Yeah..." she sighed before taking a long sip from her glass of wine. "This weekend has been absolutely exhausting."

"Oh yeah? Why's that?"

"Didn't you see my post?" she asked quickly looking at me bewilderedly before looking away guiltily. "I mean wow I guess you must have been busy working or something... did you see it?"

I rolled my eyes playfully at her poor attempt at saving face before responding, "Of course honey! Everybody saw it! It was everywhere!"

"Really?!" Katy replied excitedly jumping up on the couch like a little kid would when they get candy from trick or treating on Halloween evening when their parents say they can have one piece at home instead of waiting until they get home even though they really want them all now but they know it'll be worth the wait or whatever... well maybe not THAT excited but close enough. "You really think so?" she continued with a smile that lit up the room even though it was only 11 o'clock at night and the sun had set long ago over an hour ago...

"Yes of course!" I exclaimed putting my arm around her shoulders squeezing her tight while she took another sip from her glass of wine...

"Oh thank you honey!" she giggled setting her glass down on the table next to us before throwing herself into my arms kissing me softly on the cheek...

As Katy nestled into my embrace, her excitement was contagious. I couldn't help but smile as her laughter filled the room, erasing the weight of her weariness.

"What's all the excitement about?" I asked, a playful tone in my voice.

Katy pulled away slightly, her eyes sparkling with anticipation. "You remember how I've been talking about wanting to start my own business, right?"

I nodded, excitement bubbling within me as well. It had been a recurring topic of conversation, one that always seemed to ignite a flicker of passion in Katy's eyes.

"Well," she continued, her voice brimming with determination, "I finally did it. I started an online boutique."

My heart swelled with pride for my wife. I knew she had a flair for fashion and a keen eye for style, and it seemed that she had found the perfect outlet for her creativity.

"That's amazing, Katy!" I exclaimed. "I'm so proud of you. When did this happen?"

She shifted in her seat, her gaze drifting towards the laptop sitting on the coffee table. "Just a few days ago. I wanted to surprise you, but I couldn't keep it a secret any longer."

I couldn't contain my excitement any longer. I grabbed Katy's hand, squeezing it tightly. "I can't wait to see it. Show me!"

With a beaming smile, Katy reached for the laptop and opened it up, navigating to her newly launched website. As I took in the sleek and stylish design, I couldn't help but marvel at how much effort and dedication she must have poured into this endeavor.

The online boutique showcased a carefully curated selection of clothes, accessories, and jewelry, with a focus on unique and indie brands. Each item seemed to exude Katy's personal style, a marriage of classic elegance and trendy flair. It was evident that she had poured her heart and soul into this venture.

"Wow, Katy," I said, genuine admiration filling my voice, "This is incredible. I'm blown away."

Her smile widened, and I could see the weight of her previous depression being replaced with a renewed sense of purpose. "I'm so glad you like it. I've been dreaming about this for so long, and now it's finally happening."

As I scrolled through the boutique's offerings, I couldn't help but picture my wife pursuing her passion full-time, her eyes filled with excitement as she built something of her own. Suddenly, the mundanity of our day-to-day lives seemed less suffocating.

"I want to support you in any way I can," I declared, turning my gaze towards Katy. "I'll do whatever it takes to make this a success."

Tears filled her eyes, a mixture of relief and gratitude. "Thank you, love. Your support means the world to me."

In that moment, I made a silent promise to Katy. No longer would I be complacent in our routines, allowing ourselves to drown in the cycle of monotony. Instead, I would become her biggest cheerleader, her rock, and her unwavering source of support.

Together, we would navigate the challenges and uncertainties of entrepreneurship, hand in hand, just like we did on our first date all those years ago. And as we embarked on this new chapter, I couldn't help but feel that the boat we had once sought to sail around the world had finally found its true purpose in carrying us towards the horizon of our dreams.
