The air was damp and cold, the fog rolled in from the sea to blanket the land. The darkness of night filled the wet streets of Pooxeria’s capital city, as ash fell from the sky and covered every inch of the town with a dark layer.

Queen Ashley Sims sat on her throne, her long blonde hair covered with a heavy black hood that matched her dress. She held her head in her hands, silently weeping for the loss of her husband, King James Sims. She had known him since they were children and had fallen in love with him right away. They had been married for almost ten years now and she still couldn’t believe he was gone.

Her dragon Varford stood near the throne, his great wings folded behind him as he watched over his queen. He wasn’t a very large dragon; he only measured about three meters long and was covered in black scales that glistened like obsidian in the light of the moon. A long silver horn grew out of his head and his eyes were a bright shade of red. He looked up at his queen and sighed softly before looking back down at his paws.

Suddenly there was a loud bang from outside and he looked up sharply, his eyes widening slightly as he stared into the distance. The queen heard it too now, another bang followed by several others in quick succession. Then there was silence again for what felt like forever until it happened again: Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

Varford turned to look at his mistress once more when she jumped from her seat, breaking down into tears again but this time with joyous sobs as she ran towards him and threw her arms around his neck. “It sounds like cannons! They’re here! They’re finally here!” The dragon looked down at her curiously while she wiped away at her tears before reaching up to stroke his snout gently with one hand while holding onto him tightly with the other. “Thank you Varford, thank you so much! You’ve saved us all and I will never forget what you have done for me tonight!” She released him from her grip and gave him one last hug before walking over to a large throne beside hers where she sat down again.

She smiled warmly across at Varford who smiled back at her gratefully before returning to watching the door of the throne room intently. In moments there was a loud clang as something hit against it hard enough to make it shake on its hinges, causing Varford to jump slightly.

The door swung open violently just moments later, knocking over some of the guards who tried to stop whoever it was that had burst through it from entering without permission. Standing in front of them all was Sir Thomas the Valiant, dressed in heavy golden armor covered with blood stains from battles fought across many lands. His long blonde hair hung down past his shoulders and he wore a smile on his face that could light up any room he entered with just how happy it made him seem. For a moment he stood there breathing heavily while Varford kept staring at him curiously while wondering where their new guests had come from exactly when they seemed to be so far away from anywhere else on Earth that anyone else would ever know about them unless they were given explicit directions by someone who knew how to get there or traveled through space themselves somehow by way of magic or technology beyond human understanding which meant that these strangers should not exist as far as anyone on Pooxeria was concerned but yet here they were standing in front of them all now anyway so it didn’t really matter where they came from after all did it?
