Crushing The Curse

"Oh my god," Ingeborg said, "That was horrible."

Amalia groaned and sat down on the grass. She put her hands over her face. "I know." she said. "I know."

They were silent for a time, letting their heart rates slow down.

"I thought you could break the curse." Amalia said to the giant woman.

"I did." the woman replied. "By crushing your friend Ingeborg under my foot."

Ingeborg got up and dusted herself off. She looked at Amalia as if to say 'What do we do now?' Amalia shrugged with a half smile on her face.

"So..." Ingeborg said slowly, "What happens now?"

The giant woman kneeled down and picked up a large rock that she tossed over her shoulder casually. The rock bounced in the distance and made a small crater in the ground. She stood back up to her full height of sixty feet and faced the girls.

She smiled, looking at them both with joy in her eyes. "Now I go home." Her voice was like thunder rolling through the hills, deep and powerful but warm like a summer day.

A broad grin grew across her lips as she pulled out a handkerchief from her sleeve and began wiping her forehead with it. "It's been a long time since I've traveled this far from home." Amalia saw that the cloth was already dark with sweat stains so thick, they had turned brown all around the edges of the fabric. As she wiped away her sweat, it seemed to evaporate into nothingness like dust in the breeze.

"Wait!" Amalia yelled. The giant woman stopped wiping and looked Amalia in the eyes. "Where is home?" she asked innocently, hoping she'd get an answer to one of many things she was wondering about this strange encounter she was having with this stranger who had just crushed poor Ingeborg underfoot, ending their curse.

"Far away." The giant woman replied honestly, looking somewhat uncomfortable. She was not eager to discuss her personal life or the intimate details of her journey. She simply missed her family deeply and wanted to return to them as soon as possible.

"Don't worry!" Amalia said reassuringly, noticing tears forming in the giant woman's eyes. "We won't tell anyone about you or your family!" She looked at Ingeborg for agreement, and Ingeborg nodded, assuring the giant that her secret would be safe with them.

The giant woman wiped her tears and settled herself down on one knee, preparing to bid farewell to the two girls. After today, they would never see each other again, yet the adventure they shared had formed an unforgettable bond. With a mixture of gratitude and sadness, the giantess wished them well, knowing that the magic they had encountered together was both beautiful and mysterious, something that could not have been predicted or explained.
