Primavera's Journey: A Bronzed Age Rap Love Story
·
Published 5/29/2023In the Bronze age city of Campina Grande, cursed Primavera must learn to love deeply despite overwhelming forces of opposition with her hero, Rayhan, at her side, or risk her mortal soul and all those she holds dear.

It all started when I first saw him.
You might think it was love at first sight, but that's not how true love works. He said that to me once, and he was right. Love isn't something you can decide in a moment. It starts with a touch and ends with a kiss. It's something that grows every day until it fills your whole world and makes you happy.
Of course, it wasn't always easy. My stepmother hated me from the start, and she did everything she could to separate us.
"You have a good heart, Primavera," my father said when he told me about her curse. "But your innocence has already been marred by life. You've seen too much suffering, too many deaths." He pointed to his own heart. "Your innocence is here."
I didn't understand what he meant then, but I do now. My stepmother cursed me so I would see the best in everyone and be blind to their faults. When Rayhan first came to our village, the women fawned over him because of his handsome face, and the men looked down on him because he didn't fit into their society. But they were wrong: Rayhan had valor and strength beyond any other man in the village, and he returned their hatred with kindness and generosity.
When my stepmother found out we were seeing each other in secret, she sent a hunter after us. The man tracked us deep into the woods where we were making love under a tree, but Rayhan fought him off easily. Still, she wouldn't let us be together without another attempt to keep us apart. She waited for an opportune moment—when my husband was away—and tried to kill me in my sleep. I woke up just as she was about to stab me with a dagger; instead of fighting back, I lay still on the floor while she knelt over me with her blade raised high above her head. It was then that I felt her curse break inside of me; suddenly I could see through the evil intent behind her actions and know that she didn't really want to hurt me at all—she just wanted us apart because she knew no one else could make me happy like he could.*
That's when I started singing to her:
I don't care if you're a king or queen,
[Rayhan]
If you're mad at your lover
And you wanna leave
[repeat]
[I]
You should stay 'cause even though you're sad
[Rayhan]
[I]
Your happiness is just around the bend
[Rayhan]
[I]
You won’t find it if you’re alone
[Rayhan]
[I]
Just take my hand and hold it tight as we walk this life together.
[repeat two more times before ending on:]
[Rayhan] Let go of your fears before they disappear.
[Primavera] We can do anything if we try.
[Rayhan] Open yourself up before it's too late.
[Primavera] Together we can change the world.
Let go of your fears before they disappear.
[Primavera] We can do anything if we try.
[Rayhan] Open yourself up before it's too late.
[Primavera] Together we can change the world.
* This part is unclear as to whether or not Rayhan is included in this verse or not; for clarification purposes, he is not included (unless otherwise indicated). In spite of this distinction, there are some who believe that Rayhan played some role in breaking the curse (though there is little evidence for this). Such beliefs are widely discredited—even by those who practice similar tactics today—for obvious reasons (see Season Two).
