Hola: A Journey to Freedom

Hola! That was the greeting that young Tomas heard every morning, as he awoke to yet another day in the 14th century city where he was born. After his parents died during a famine, the only thing he remembered them telling him was the importance of making something of himself. At an early age, Tomas was determined, and saw it as his mission to create a better life for himself.

And so, he embraced the challenge of navigating the hustle and bustle of the city, as he sought to find a way to survive. Though life on the streets was hard, he eventually established himself as a close-knit part of the city's underworld. A band of rogues soon welcomed him into their circle that included thieves, outcasts, and those looking for a second chance.

The farther he ventured, the more risk Tomas took. Though life seemed to be taking a different turn for him, his street-tough façade and determined spirit often got him into trouble. Most of his new friends weren't ready to deal with Tomas' spunk, but despite their feigned gruffness, they appreciated his being there and supported him when times got tough.

One day, Tomas encountered a caravan of goods that made him realize that the city had so much more to offer than he'd so far witnessed. His curiosity was undeniable, and he soon followed the ragged collection of traders outside the city limits. It was here, in their deep woods and rugged mountains, that Tomas discovered not only a community of people living in harmony, but also a newfound passion for the world around him.

The change in Tomas was dramatic. Though his moves were still agile and mischievous, they now came with a certain intelligence behind them. Still, the lure of city life was still spinning around him, and Tomas knew that danger would always be lurking around the corner. If he was going to ever make something of himself, then he needed to heed both his city and now rural roots, or he'd be doomed for failure.

Tomas soon found that his newfound awareness put him at odds with both the law and his criminal compatriots. Though a climactic ending seemed inevitable, Tomas stood firm in his conviction to use his unique intelligence and eternal determination as swords instead of shields in the upcoming storm.

Tomas sat face to face with his formerfriends, his eyes alight with excitement, sweat coursing down his neck. He motioned with zeal and shared his plan - one based on his newfound understanding of the world. Out of his lips descended a volley of confident words of what the city could become and how they could be an integral part of that transformation.

But his plan was not accepted and conflict immediately ensued between Tomas and his former compatriots. Though emotions and tensions ran high, Tomas eventually backed himself down and offered a passionate re-envisioning of how their lives could be - free of danger, and filled with opportunity.

Though some were swayed, this moment of clarity was short-lived as still others saw him only as a devious scoundrel, who would never abandon their old tricks. Ammunition was pulled, fists were raised, and life, once again, seemed doomed.

But fate, it seemed, looked favorably upon Tomas and his supporters and a shift in the battle suddenly took place. From what seemed a certain end came hope and a chance to ward off an expected impending doom.

Tomas eventually triumphed - along with his re-envisioned plan. In the end, his creative approach brought peace and safety to the city once more. But Tomas, with new appreciation for all life has to offer, never returned to the city, instead using his newfound strengths to live amongst the community he had found in the woodlands beyond.

This story lived on through the years, eventually spurring a chain reaction of spunky characters all around. As stories passed from friend to friend, people recognized the strength it takes to accept and embrace a different path, and soon a new generation of determined individuals looking for their own Hola! was born.
