The first time I met Jak, I thought he was a high-rank member of the Underground.

We were fighting against the Metal Heads in the Salt Plains, and I was doing my job as a soldier for the Galactic Council. He was there to take out any stragglers. As it turned out, we didn't need to kill each other.

I knew right off the bat that he was something more than an ordinary grunt: his weapon was a sort of energy whip, not at all like what the other soldiers had. It wasn't a standard issue; it seemed like more of a homemade weapon.

As it turned out, I was right in my suspicions. After we wiped out the remaining Metal Heads together, we got talking. He told me about how he lived in Haven City with his mom, who was secretly one of the Underground leaders before she left to raise him on her own after his father died (which explained his secret weapon). He told me about how he'd been traveling around the galaxy looking for some kind of relic from his mother's past (it turned out to be this red Eco thing called "The Heart of Mar Arok"). And he told me how he fought alongside these guys called "Dredge", who were basically evil versions of himself who caused all sorts of trouble throughout the galaxy.

A couple weeks later, I found myself in Haven City with Jak after we decided to travel together across the stars looking for his mother's relic and taking down Dredge wherever we could find them. We took down some Dredge operations on Koros IV (the desert world where I grew up) and Veldin (my planet), but it wasn't until we found ourselves in this weird dimension full of floating islands that things really got interesting.

We ended up on a world called Acheron, where Jak found his mother's old friend and mentor High Councillor Bracklin waiting for us at a tavern near the port city known as Port Korvus. Bracklin told us about how he wanted to go back to his home planet in order to stop Chancellor Alvis from killing everyone with these giant mega-weapons centered around this ancient artifact known as "The Heart of Mar Arok".

Turns out The Heart is actually an extremely powerful source of Red Eco that can be used to create this stuff called Dark Eco which is capable of destroying entire planets if used improperly. Alvis was trying to harness Dark Eco by using The Heart as a power source for these weapons that would destroy planets so he could rebuild them into more habitable worlds for humanity once they all die off due to their home star going supernova in just a few thousand years' worth of time (fucking science edjukashun!).

So yeah, Jak had found what he set out on this adventure looking for: a way to save his people from dying off-world. So now it's just me and him fighting against Alvis and his armies back on Acheron while getting ready for our final showdown against Alvis back on Bracklin's home planet of Myridia. Supposedly Bracklin has a superweapon capable of destroying both The Heart and the planet at the same time, ending Alvis's schemes once and for all. Problem is, Bracklin hasn't been able to get to it yet because Alvis keeps sending wave after wave after wave after wave after wave after wave after wave after wave after wave after wave after wave after wave after wave after wave after wave after wave after wave after wave after wave after wave after wave...you get the gist here...of armies at him and us so we have no choice but to fight through all these different cities occupied by these different warlords who don't want us messing up their little fiefdoms and try our best not to die while we're at it. Which isn't always easy when you've got enemies like giant rock monsters who are immune to energon blasts or possessed scientists who shoot lasers from out their eyes... y'know...stuff like that.
