The Great War was a disaster. There were no winners - only losers. The planet, once lush and green, had been scorched by weapons of war. What remained was a barren wasteland dotted with craters and bodies. The inhabitants, once proud and strong, had nothing left to live for. They were left with the task of rebuilding their lives on a planet that could no longer support them.

Nymeria stepped off the transport shuttle onto the crumbling landing platform. She took in her surroundings, trying to ignore the heat radiating from the barren soil beneath her feet. She had never been so hot before in her life; the heat waves distorted everything around her.

The shuttle door closed behind her, and Nymeria watched it ascend until it became just another speck against a backdrop of black sky and grey clouds that threatened rain. It would be a long time before she saw another human being again; only the long dead remained on this planet, whose name Nymeria did not know.

She turned in place, taking in every detail of her new home: the crater to her right where there used to be trees; the crumbled remains of what was once a small town straight ahead; and to her left a cliff face that fell into an ocean that no longer existed. The sight made Nymeria's stomach churn: this place was too much like Earth to be real. She couldn't remember how many years ago it was that she had left Earth behind, but she still remembered how beautiful it had been when she had last seen it; how different it was now.

Tears welled up in Nymeria's eyes as she realized that this place would look eerily similar to where she grew up - if only there wasn't an ocean of dust instead of an ocean of water; if only there weren't endless patches of scrub brush instead of endless patches of green grasses; if only there wasn't a cloudless sky overhead instead of a clear blue sky with fluffy white clouds...

She wiped away her tears and walked towards the town ahead, refusing to let herself think about home any longer today; she had work to do here first. She walked into the town square, where citizens used to hold gatherings for festivals or weekly markets before The War broke out - before everything went horribly wrong for everyone involved.

Nymeria looked around at all the faces staring back at her: hollow eyes set into gaunt faces beneath unkempt hair atop shoulders that sagged with despair at the memory of happier times long gone. They were like statues frozen mid-stride in some great apocalypse - like they were waiting for someone to tell them that things would somehow start making sense again someday soon... but they knew better than anyone else that day would never come.

"Hello," said Nymeria to no one in particular. "My name is Nymeria." She looked down at her datapad, scrolling through the list of names stored there until she found one: "Davir." Her eyes scanned over the words again and again until they finally sunk in: he lived here! Finally, after all these years...her mission started today!

Nymeria treaded cautiously through the dilapidated streets of the town, her footsteps echoing in the haunting silence. She clutched the datapad tightly in her hands, her heart pounding with anticipation. It had taken her years of searching, following rumors and fragmentary leads, to track down Davir. And now, standing in this desolate place, she was finally one step closer to achieving her mission.

Homes lay in ruins, reduced to nothing more than hollow shells of what they once were. Broken glass and debris littered the ground, swallowed by the unforgiving dust storms that had become a constant backdrop to their existence. Nymeria could hardly fathom the hardship these people had endured, the devastating aftermath of a war that had robbed them of everything.

As she turned a corner, Nymeria caught a glimpse of movement from the corner of her eye. Her eyes narrowed and she froze, her trained instincts telling her that she was being watched. She was not alone in this forsaken town.

"Who's there?" she called out, her voice carrying an air of authority and caution.

Silence hung in the air for a moment before a figure emerged from the shadows. He was tall and lean, his face etched with weariness, yet his eyes sparkled with a glimmer of hope. It was Davir.

Nymeria's breath caught in her throat as she locked eyes with him. In that moment, the weight of their shared history, their shared purpose, settled upon her shoulders. She knew that Davir held the key to unraveling the mystery of what had befallen their world, what had led them all to this desolation.

"Davir," she spoke softly, her voice filled with a mix of desperation and determination. "I've been searching for you for so long."

Davir's gaze met hers, a flicker of recognition crossing his face. "Nymeria," he said, his voice laden with a heavy burden that echoed her own. "I never thought I would see another survivor again."

Nymeria took a step closer, her eyes brimming with tears. She had kept her emotions under control for too long, but now, in front of Davir, it was like a dam had burst within her. The grief, the exhaustion, the relentless pursuit of answers threatened to consume her.

"I have a mission, Davir," she said, her voice trembling with a mixture of fear and resolve. "We need to find out what really happened. We can't let the truth be buried with the ruins."

Davir nodded solemnly, his face lined with ancient sorrow. "You're right, Nymeria. We owe it to those who came before us, to those who sacrificed everything, to uncover the truth and make their sacrifice mean something."

The two survivors stood there, side by side, in the ruins of the town square. Their shared determination burned like a beacon, pushing them forward into the unknown. They knew the road ahead would be treacherous, that they would face countless obstacles and unimaginable dangers, but they were ready. Ready to fight for the truth, for justice, and for the chance to rebuild a world that had been torn apart by war.

As they took their first steps towards their shared mission, Nymeria and Davir knew that they were not just embarking on a journey of redemption. They were setting out to rewrite history, to ensure that the mistakes of the past would never be forgotten. And with each stride, their footsteps echoed with a newfound hope, resonating through the desolation and signaling the dawn of a new chapter in their shattered world.
