The Celestial Awakening
·
Published 4/4/2023After ambitious Dr. Frey uncover an alien infection with the potential to enhance humanity in baffling new ways, she leads a team of scientists on a perilous journey, risking their lives to uncover a powerful yet surprisingly gentle and mysterious force that could change the universe forever.
The Doctor pulled the needle out of his arm. He sighed as he felt the rush of chemicals through his body, and the room began to spin around him. The scientist sat on a small stool in front of a large box. The rest of the room was dark, but he could see the reflection of the light off of the machine in front of him on the floor in front of him. He looked up at it, transfixed. It was a strange device, with many buttons and knobs. He glanced down at his watch. It had been almost two hours since he first injected himself with the experimental new drug, but it felt like only minutes.
The rush was starting to wear off, and he felt tired, but also energized, like his brain had been charged with electricity. He stood up from the stool and walked over to a table that held several beakers of chemicals. He picked up one beaker and turned it upside down over another one, creating an explosive reaction that would probably blind anyone who wasn’t prepared for it (the scientist wore special glasses).
He smiled to himself as he watched the chemicals mix and change colors as they reacted with each other. He set down the beaker on the table and went over to another table across the room - it held an impressive collection of microscopes and other scientific apparatus. He picked one up that resembled a pair of binoculars, and peered into it at some grains of sand on a small piece of cloth underneath it.
Suddenly, something caught his eye from near one wall - he turned around to look at it more closely. There was nothing there that he remembered being there before - something very odd about this particular piece of wall today...
He took three steps toward it, though he didn’t remember walking toward it in the first place. Still holding onto his microscope binoculars-thingy, he extended his right arm out in front of him toward whatever was hidden behind this rather unremarkable section of plain white wall. As he got closer and closer to it, his hand seemed to stretch farther and farther until finally… And then suddenly…
