Sand and Stars: A Journey of Redemption and Resilience
·
Published 7/4/2023In a galaxy plagued by conflict, the courageous and battle-worn Ahsoka Tano reluctantly takes in a young intruder, leading to an unexpected relationship that challenges their beliefs and unveils hidden powers, as they embark on a perilous journey to protect each other and end the tyranny engulfing their world. Will this unlikely duo discover their true strength as they navigate danger, magic, and the ever-pressing question of destiny?

Unquestionably, there was a time in the life of Ahsoka Tano during which she was compelled to take another's life. If she recalled with accuracy, the ill-fated individual was a Tusken Raider; yet he was not unaccompanied on this occasion. In his company were two others of his kind, armed with gaffi sticks, while the one she eventually ended was carrying a blaster rifle. The weaponry at Ahsoka’s disposal wasn't as forceful: an electro-whip and a vibroblade, quick and deadly in her skilled hands.
Upon arriving on Tatooine, desperation clung to Ahsoka like a second skin. After being stranded for nearly two days because her ship had been incapacitated by some Imperial slavers, she was down to her last drops of fuel. She used these final precious resource in her attempts to restore her ship to a functional status. Successful she was ultimately, but only after suffering the harsh conditions of wandering in the desolate desert. Fortuitously, she encountered some Tusken Raiders before succumbing to the lethal elements. They were amenable to trading the necessary damaged parts she required to repair her ship, settling for an agreed consignment of water.
The next day, when they returned seeking their payment, they discovered Ahsoka waiting with her weapons drawn. The first to fall was the one armed with the blaster. He barely managed to get one shot off before Ahsoka wielded her whipstaff, cleaving open his chest and causing him to succumb to his injuries before he could retaliate. His companions attempted to flee but Ahsoka caught up to them rapidly.
In a last effort to fight back, one raider brandished his gaffi stick at her. But Ahsoka was too quick, blocking it deftly with her armguard and retaliating with her whipstaff, sending him sprawling backwards into a boulder. Before he could recuperate, Ahsoka strangled him with her whipstaff, pressing it against the rock surface behind his throat until blood erupted fervently from his mouth and neck. Then she turned her attention towards the last Raider, who had already escaped into the barren expanse of the desert.
There seemed a potential meal that eluded her, Ahsoka thought wryly, loosening her grip on the deceased Raider's neck.
Suddenly fate chose to intervene, another unseen Raider ambushed her from behind, knocking her unconscious with a sharp blow. When Ahsoka next regained consciousness, she found herself cocooned in a mysterious tent filled with incense and peculiar hanging artifacts- human skulls, bones and assortments of shriveled meat populated the ceiling. In front of her emerged another Raider, unlike his peers, clothed in an elaborate cloak that veiled his body except for his head. It featured a pair of striking yellow eyes encased in black skin adorned with long, cascading hair extending past his shoulders. His attire seemed more refined than the typical Raider gear, however the lingering scent of smoke and sand was unmistakable.
He vocalized his awareness of Ahsoka’s awakened state in a gruff voice, discarding his cloak to exhibit a muscular physique hidden beneath the layers of fabric. “I have decided not to kill you,” he stated.
Ahsoka shot back with a curious, "Why?" Not allowing herself to overanalyze why he hadn't chosen to kill her (reasoning that he'd probably derive pleasure from torturing before killing), she puzzled over why he hadn’t killed her earlier, when she was unconscious or even when his men had initially captured her in the desert earlier...
"Why not?" The Raider responded cryptically, drawing closer to Ahsoka's immobilized body artistically displayed on an altar-like stone slab situated before what appeared to be a terrifying bone statue. Daring to inquire, "Or perhaps I should ask: Why should I kill you? You are still young enough to learn under my guidance. Your strength and intelligence can be valuable for me..." He let the words hang in the air for a moment before continuing: "I find no reason not to claim you as my own." Upon stating this, he reached out and lifted Ahsoka’s face gently towards his piercing yellow gaze…
As stellar bodies glittered their radiant light down on Coruscant signifying nightfall, Ahsoka returned home from a prolonged session of libations in the company of Senator Padme Amidala, who had generously extended her invitation based on Ahsoka’s commendable involvement during their shared journey. It was intriguing to Ahsoka, but not entirely free from danger due to Padme's wildly audacious habit of diving headfirst into precarious situations without considering basic safety measures. A comparison by Padme to Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn was frequently made, claiming he would approve of such actions... However, Qui-Gon Jinn did not have to
live with the consequences, Ahsoka thought wryly.
Entering her small apartment, Ahsoka sighed with relief as she finally slipped out of the uncomfortable senatorial gown that had encased her for the evening. The events of the night replayed in her mind like a holo-recording, and she couldn't help but feel a mix of gratitude and apprehension. Despite her initial reservations, she had to admit that the evening had been more enlightening than she had anticipated. Padme had shared stories of her own involvement in the political landscape of the galaxy, offering Ahsoka a perspective she had never considered before.
As she prepared for bed, Ahsoka couldn't shake the words of the senator's stories from her mind. The idea of getting involved in galactic politics had always seemed foreign to her, but perhaps it wasn't as far-fetched as she had believed. She had fought in wars, seen the atrocities committed by the Sith, and now, with the Empire's rise to power, the galaxy needed people like her, people who had experienced the hardships inflicted upon innocent beings.
Lost in thought, Ahsoka was startled by a knock on her door. She opened it cautiously, not expecting any visitors at this late hour. To her surprise, standing before her was a Mirialan woman, her face familiar but her name escaping Ahsoka's memory.
"Can I help you?" Ahsoka asked, trying to place the woman's identity.
The Mirialan smiled warmly. "I hope so, Ahsoka Tano. My name is Master Luminara Unduli. We met briefly during the Clone Wars on Cato Neimoidia."
Recognition dawned on Ahsoka, and she felt a mixture of relief and curiosity. "Master Unduli, it's good to see you again. Please, come in."
As they settled into chairs in Ahsoka's modest living room, Master Unduli explained the purpose of her unexpected visit. "Ahsoka, I have been keeping an eye on your journey ever since you left the Jedi Order. I have seen the trials you have faced, and I believe you have a unique perspective that would greatly benefit our cause."
Ahsoka listened intently, intrigued by the proposition. Master Unduli continued, "The galaxy is in turmoil, Ahsoka. The Empire's grip is tightening, and the Rebellion needs all the help it can get. Your skills, your knowledge of the Force, and your compassion would make you a valuable asset."
Ahsoka's mind raced with thoughts and questions. She had always felt adrift in the galaxy, struggling to find her purpose after leaving the Jedi Order. Perhaps this was the opportunity she had been waiting for. The chance to make a difference, to fight for justice alongside others who believed in the same cause.
"Master Unduli, I... I don't know what to say," Ahsoka stammered, her emotions overwhelming her. "I've spent so long trying to find my place, and now it feels like everything is falling into place."
Master Unduli smiled, placing a hand on Ahsoka's arm. "The Force works in mysterious ways, Ahsoka. It is up to us to listen and follow its guidance. I believe you are meant for something greater, and the Rebellion can provide you with the purpose you seek."
Ahsoka nodded, a sense of determination settling within her. She had taken a life once, but now she would dedicate herself to preserving life. To fighting against the darkness that threatened the galaxy. With new hope burning in her heart, she looked at Master Unduli and said, "I'm ready, Master. Ready to join the Rebellion and make a difference."
Master Unduli's smile widened, and she stood, extending her hand to Ahsoka. "Welcome to the Rebellion, Ahsoka Tano. May the Force be with us."
As Ahsoka took Master Unduli's hand, a surge of purpose coursed through her veins. She knew that the road ahead would not be easy, but she was filled with a newfound determination. The journey she had begun on Tatooine, fraught with desperation and violence, had led her to this moment. A moment where she would rise from the ashes, a beacon of hope in a galaxy shrouded in darkness.
The path of a Jedi may have been denied to her, but Ahsoka Tano would forge her own destiny as a warrior for the Rebellion. And as she donned her lightsabers once again, she knew that her actions would ripple through the galaxy, inspiring hope in the hearts of those who felt powerless.
With Master Unduli by her side, Ahsoka took a deep breath, ready to embrace the challenges that lay ahead. For the time had come for her to find her place among the stars, to bring balance and justice to a galaxy in desperate need. And as the stars continued to twinkle above Coruscant, Ahsoka stepped into her new role, ready to fight for a future where freedom and light would prevail.
