A sharp pain shot through my lower jaw as I bit down on the neck of the man lying in front of me. The taste of his blood filled my mouth and, for a moment, it was all I could focus on. I felt like I didn't need to breathe anymore. It was like having all my senses amplified. My hearing, smell and sight seemed to be working at their fullest capacity, but it was the taste that excited me the most.

His heart was beating in my ears. It made me feel like I knew him and trusted him completely. There was a strange sense of love towards this stranger who just happened to have a nice artery that ran close to the surface of his skin. All this emotion wasn't making eating him any easier though. Even though he would never suffer any pain or fear again, it still made me feel horrible.

The blood continued to dribble down my chin and onto the carpeted floor while I thought about how much harder it would be if I had my fangs. My fangs had fallen out yesterday morning and now, I was stuck with these new teeth that seemed to slow everything down.

My thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the door across from me. Another vampire stood outside with a large smile on his face. "Hey there Francesca! You got some good stuff tonight," he said with excitement in his voice. "Want to go get a drink?"

I closed my eyes let out a groan and wiped the excess blood from my face with the sleeve of my shirt before replying "Sure Erik."

I knew Erik meant no harm by his comment about what I had fed on tonight but still, it stung a little bit. Every vampire hopes for great feedings when they wake up, but when you're like me and your fangs fall out before you can feed once...well...at least someone has something nice to say about it.. Even if he's joking around about it being a person instead of an animal!

I grabbed one last bite before putting my lips away from him and wiping away what remained on my chin with another swiping motion of my shirt sleeve. As soon as we left the apartment building, Erik sped off ahead of me into the night sky. He loved flying so much that whenever we went out together, he always took off without even waiting for me! He'd fly back later when we both were ready to head home!

When I finally caught up to him he hopped around excitedly "Did you hear?! This is going to be our best year ever!!" His voice echoed through the night air as he spoke loudly enough for anyone within earshot to hear his enthusiasm! Whenever he got excited about something, he did this weird little dance where he would hop up and down and wave his arms around! It looked ridiculous but I loved it anyway!

"Yeah? Why's that?" I asked curiously trying to keep up with Erik's pace as we crossed over several rooftops high into the atmosphere above Central Park! A few seconds ago we were just walking along 5th avenue but now...here we were! "Why do we have such high hopes?"

Erik was suddenly serious as he came to an abrupt stop right above Central Park itself! The look on his face told me something bad just happened and whatever it was, made him terrified for us all! He slowly turned towards me with a look of horror in his eyes "It's Vinnie..." He whispered into the night air before taking flight once again! Only this time...he didn't stop until we were back home at our little hideout apartment in midtown Manhattan!
