Defying Dystopia: Leana's Rebellion
·
Published 4/2/2023In a dystopian future, a brave and courageous group of rebels led by an oppressive tyrant determinedly use cutting-edge technology to fight for their freedom, risking persecution and danger to ultimately experience a bittersweet success against an ideological agenda that heavily opposes their individual expression.
"You know what? Fuck it. Fuck it all," said the dark-skinned man in the alley, loud enough for others to hear, "fuck this city and fuck the people in it."
"Shh…" a fellow member of the rebellion replied, "keep your voice down."
"Why?" he asked defiantly. "Let them hear me! Let them all hear me! We're as good as dead anyway!"
A few others were walking nearby and heard him speaking. They gave him a look that made his blood run cold. He wasn't a fan of this city or its people but he didn't want to get caught because of something stupid like that. The others kept walking, still staring at him. He felt himself start to sweat and his heart beating faster. He looked on ahead and saw more people walking towards him, not even bothering to avoid eye contact as they approached.
"Let's go," he whispered to his friend. The group started walking away from the group of people heading their way. The two men quickly ducked into another alleyway before anyone could stop them. Once they were far enough from their pursuers, they stopped and leaned against a wall, trying to catch their breath.
"What was that about?" his friend asked exasperatedly, "you do know that we're putting our lives on the line here right?"
"I'm not so sure anymore," he said, almost whispering now too, "I think we've lost."

The future world was bleak and complex. It had been that way for as long as anyone could remember. Even though there were many things wrong with it, people couldn't help but agree that those days were better than those of today. Times were tougher back then: there were natural disasters everywhere, wars were constant and most people didn't have access to basic supplies like food or clean water. But at least they had some semblance of freedom then: freedom to express themselves, freedom to live where they wanted, freedom from corrupt governments who used fear mongering tactics to keep their power – freedom that meant more than just words plastered on public buildings and broadcasted through television screens every day since everyone had access to technology with which these words could be read by everyone around them anywhere they went in the world. Everyone except those who weren’t registered citizens of course because if you weren’t a citizen you weren’t allowed to live in any part of the world beyond Leana City let alone use advanced technology that only citizens got access too: an advanced monitoring system in place had made sure of that by tracking everything they did and controlling where they lived thanks to a series of punishments including imprisonment or having their data erased if they tried anything against this rule set by the government that ruled over Leana City ever since registration became mandatory after several terrorist attacks on key cities along with severe weather conditions damaged many parts of the world so badly it would take decades for them to recover making most people believe it would take over 100 years for these effects to wear off – an event which happened during times when the world was less developed technologically speaking and before everyone had access to advance systems which made it easier for them to monitor everything anyway; but those without homes didn’t have much say when it came down to choosing where they lived anyway considering the living conditions outside Leana City were so harsh one couldn’t blame those who chose safety over freedom considering how close most parts of the world got destroyed at some point in history – close enough for most people who survived near-misses between destructive forces including firestorms caused by raging wildfires that could travel miles upstream in minutes sometimes passing through whole towns in seconds without stopping until they reached sources of water nearby or moving away from its original location entirely or sometimes even being followed by landslides or floods caused by torrential rainstorms which caused mudslides leading away from mountainside villages thousands of feet high where children lived before reaching fertile ground below causing chaos wherever they traveled; but such moments occurred often before cities like Leana City came into existence making life harder for those who survived their destruction after all – a term used loosely since many didn’t survive at all mostly due to injuries sustained from falling objects like boulders breaking through roofs or walls crushing loved ones underneath or being buried under rubble when entire villages collapsed killing everyone inside who didn’t move fast enough on foot or died when fires consumed entire houses burning up residents inside leaving nothing but ash behind on some particularly bad days; other times death found survivors later when aid workers failed to reach areas destroyed by earthquakes causing mass starvation especially when food supplies ran out – an event which was common given how many countries scrambled together resources during these times meaning many regions suffered famine while others barely scraped by causing even more problems later when food began running low elsewhere affecting countries who didn’t have much supply left meaning no one knew where else they could turn too even if they had means available; but there were also war zones where conflict spread across borders leaving many areas ravaged due to battles fought across fields pockmarked with craters caused by bombs dropped from fighter jets flying above ground level during dogfights between rival militaries with no regard for civilians caught up in crossfire who sometimes found themselves trapped under heavy rubble preventing rescuers from entering structures surrounded by fighting forces unwilling to give up ground until troops retreated elsewhere leaving no choice but destroy remaining structures with explosives placed strategically throughout each building reducing everything left behind including anybody still alive inside concrete ruins into dust once again; the list went on…but even still somehow despite how bad things seemed at times some semblance of hope remained intact within the hearts of those willing to fight back against whatever stood in their way either human or otherwise whether natural; because what else could drive someone sane enough not only survive such terrible conditions but stubborn enough refuse living under intolerable rule set forth by a government bent on keeping power by any means necessary? The answer was simple: freedom! Freedom was worth fighting for no matter what cost was involved! And so even though things got worse over time instead of giving up many found new ways around these rules set forth by those who wanted power through fear mongering instead of free will offering aid whenever possible whenever necessary however possible whenever possible however necessary whenever necessary however possible however necessary whenever possible however necessary... Many believed change was needed: a revolution! So why not start one? Why not make change happen? But wouldn't things be better if there wasn't any need for change? At least not yet anyway? Maybe better is subjective depending on what side you're on. One thing is clear though…the people are fed up with being oppressed and want change…so why are so many changing sides? What are they doing? Are they really traitors? Or is there something else going on behind closed doors nobody wants us to know about? Whatever it is…it's probably bad news considering how bad things seem getting worse every day... I don't know how much longer I can keep fighting…but I can't stop now…because freedom matters…freedom matters more than anything else...
