The Incredible Martian Chase
·
Published 3/15/2023When tough-as-nails Sheriff and their zany posse set out to capture mischievous tech-savvy criminals, they discover something more than meets the eye and are in for a wild ride of humorous hi-jinks as they battle to protect the newly colonized planet Mars from the delinquent outlaws and their escalating schemes.
The sheriff paced back and forth in his office, rubbing the brim of his hat between his fingers. The deputy sat at the opposite end of the desk with his feet up, tapping away at something on his phone. His youthful face, covered in freckles, was focused on the screen, oblivious to the world around him.
"I tell you, it's a good plan," said the sheriff. "The sheriff who sent me this letter wrote it himself. He says they've used it on other criminals like these and it's worked every time."
"I reckon so.." said the deputy as he continued to play with his phone, not even looking up at the sheriff. "But I dunno... them guys are pretty fast..." He looked up from his phone suddenly. "Hellfire! They're fast!"
"That's why we'll have a man on each corner of town," said the sheriff. "Can't escape that way. And we'll spread out across all four corners so they don't see us movin' in on 'em."
"Well what about when we're all movin' in?" asked the deputy, shoving his phone into his pocket. "They ain't gonna be able to tell what direction we're comin' from then."
"We'll have everyone turn their flashlights off then," said the sheriff. He stopped pacing and leaned against one of the walls near the window behind him. "They won't know which direction to run in if nobody's lookin' at 'em."
The deputy looked skeptical for a moment before an idea popped into his mind. "Wait... if we got some dynamite sticks set up around town, I bet that'll help scare em off." He looked up at the ceiling as he thought out loud. "We could put 'em all over town in doors and windows and stuff where they won't set them off by accident."
"You're right!" said the sheriff excitedly. "If they hear or see dynamite goin' off all over town, they might think we're ready for this fight."

Three outlaws with eye patches rode slowly down Main Street at nightfall, passing by several small cabins on both sides along with a few saloons and stores that had closed early for the evening. One of them reigned in his horse so abruptly that he nearly fell over backwards in surprise as a group of men dressed as cowboys surrounded their horses on both sides while roaring at them to surrender their weapons and give themselves up to justice.
The three men turned their heads wildly left and right until one of them yelled out, "It's just an ambush! Let's get outta here!" He kicked his horse hard and began shooting wildly into the air above him with two revolvers as he galloped past several buildings and into an alleyway behind a restaurant before turning around again and galloping back towards Main Street without slowing down or turning off course. Several shots were fired by lawmen from both sides of Main Street but none hit their target; instead they bounced harmlessly off of brick walls and light poles before vanishing into darkness as quickly as they appeared. The two other outlaws followed suit straight away without hesitation; one rode straight through an empty store window, shattering glass everywhere and running straight past another group of lawmen who were too surprised to shoot at him until he was well past them before turning around again while still riding full speed ahead toward Main Street. A few more shots rang out but once again no one was hit. The third outlaw flew through another empty store window into a wooden fence across from another group of lawmen who opened fire immediately but missed once again when he made a sharp turn around behind a large rock formation outside of town before jumping onto a horse that had been tied up next to it; one bullet ricocheted off of the rock formation before disappearing into darkness while another embedded itself into its side after bouncing off of a wooden signpost across from it before also disappearing into darkness along with its owner who rode furiously after his two comrades who were already halfway down Main Street by then without stopping to look back around at anything or anybody else besides each other as they sped away from town amidst chaos and confusion caused by their sudden departure from town this late at night; many people rushed out of their homes wearing bathrobes and slippers when they heard all of this commotion going on outside throughout downtown while others watched from their windows; some stood dumbfounded while others ran out into the street to help stop this sudden attack but most simply watched open-mouthed as everything unfolded right outside their front doors or windows; only one person tried to chase after them with a broomstick but gave up after just a few steps before returning back inside home muttering angrily under her breath about how she would never go shopping again until she knew whether or not those three outlaws had been caught or not; she went straight upstairs to bed without even taking her slippers off first because she was too tired after such an unusual day like this...

The next morning Sheriff Biggs walked out onto his porch holding two cups of coffee for himself and Deputy Hunter when he heard someone shouting loudly in anger somewhere nearby:
"What do you mean you lost em?!" he shouted angrily through cupped hands as he pushed past Deputy Hunter who hopped back onto his porch when he saw him coming out carrying coffees for both himself and Hunter earlier that morning after staying up all night trying to figure out where those three fugitives might have run off to last night while sipping whiskey all night long waiting -- just waiting -- for any news about where those outlaws might be hiding right now; he figured they could use some coffee this morning since there wasn't any news yet -- good news or bad news -- so far today about where those three outlaws might be hiding right now since they didn't find any clues last night even though they'd gone from cabin to cabin looking for clues throughout town until dawn broke early this morning before having breakfast together quietly without saying much else except for how bad it would be for everyone if those criminals managed to escape justice again like last time when only one of them had been caught during that other shootout with those same three fugitives because the other two had slipped away during the chaos; Hunter hoped that wouldn't happen again today because those three outlaws really needed to be caught soon enough before something worse happened...
