The forest lay before her, dark and foreboding. The trees rose up tall, their leaves rustling in the wind. Somewhere deep inside the forest was a place where she could find what she was looking for. She had to get there before it was too late.

Dsiare looked down at her hands, the slight tremble of her fingers betraying how frightened she really was. All of her life she had lived in fear of what lay outside the village walls. But now, she had no choice but to venture into this forest if her mother was to survive the illness that had taken hold of her body. She would not let her mother die and suffer alone.

The sound of hooves clapping on the cobblestone street snapped Dsiare out of her thoughts. A pair of men stood in front of her leading a small cart with chickens tied on top. One man held a whip in his hand as he eyed her suspiciously. He must have thought that she was trying to steal from them by hiding behind one of the trees lining the road.

"You there! What are you doing?" The man yelled at Dsiare, his pace quickening as he walked towards Dsiare, who still stood frozen by a tree.

Fear gripped Dsiare's heart as she backed away from the man. She was so preoccupied with what she would do once she got into the forest that she hadn't considered how dangerous it was to be caught trying to leave the village without permission by one of the guardsmen posted at the gate. If they realized why she wanted to go into the forest, then they would surely call for her parents and tell them everything - which might lead to punishment worse than death itself.

"I'm just waiting for my uncle!" Dsiare lied, holding up a cloth-wrapped bundle that contained all that she needed to make it through the forest alive: some meat wrapped around a small knife meant for self-defense, some dried fruit and nuts along with water from their well back home. "He told me to wait here."

"Well your uncle is going to have a lot of explaining to do when I find him," said the guardman as he grabbed Dsiare by her arm and escorted her back towards the town square which had become an open market after people stopped working in order to travel across their land gathering food for winter time ahead.

As soon as they approached, Dsiare saw people running around trying to procure supplies from merchants who were selling their goods on tables set up along sides of streets while others were haggling over prices while looking at cows and goats being sold in makeshift pens nearby - animals that had been bred over generations in order to survive harsh winters and long summers alike by picking grasses growing underneath snow where even goats wouldn't dare tread on due to its frigidity, or flying high above forests where animals lived their lives while perched atop branches strong enough not be snapped off by mighty winds. Everyone knew that winter was coming very soon and they needed these animals if they were going to survive it with enough food left over so that next summer could be bountiful with many young animals born who could be raised properly until they grew old enough for butchering - which would happen after everyone ate all of their preserved meats from last year during spring time before giving birth again in autumn time when seasons switched places again so that when winter came around again everyone would already have supplies stocked up from last year's harvest ready and waiting for use so that they could live another year without having to go through any hardships and eat whatever scraps remained after keeping themselves fed throughout winter time.
