Ulath vs Tyrsis: The Duel through Time
·
Published 3/6/2023In a world of slang and darkness, two powerful rivals, ancient wizard Ulath and relentless assassin Tyrsis, battle for supremacy in a duel spanning time, forcing them to use their wits and go to extreme lengths to outwit one another.
The mugginess of the desert was a stifling blanket, waves of heat radiating off the ground to envelope the two figures in it. The taller of the two, clad all in black and with a scarf wound around his face, walked before the shorter, clad in bronze and wearing a pointed hat with a curl at the end.
“Why have you called me here?” The shorter figure asked. “It will be noon soon.”
The taller one stopped walking. “I have an offer for you, Tyrsis.” He replied.
The short one stopped as well. “An offer? What could you possibly have that I would want?”
The tall one smiled behind his scarf. “I can give you what you crave most; victory over Ulath in our duel.”
Tyrsis made a sound of disbelief and anger. “You take advantage of my weakness! I cannot defeat him alone, he is too powerful and too wise! You know this! You are only trying to trick me into giving up my life!”
“Indeed I am trying to trick you, Tyrsis. But not quite as you think. A deal with me will not leave you dead, but rather with what you want so badly: victory over your rival Ulath.”
Tyrsis was silent for a moment, then said, “Continue your riddle and then we shall see if I am interested or not.”
The tall man nodded and continued walking further into the desert. Tyrsis sighed and followed, wondering what strange game this wizard was playing at that involved putting him in danger when it would be safer to just let him die fighting Ulath on his own.
They walked for hours until they reached a small oasis surrounded by large rocks that blocked the view of anyone outside the oasis looking in, but allowed someone standing within it to see out easily enough. The tall man walked to the center of the oasis and turned around to face Tyrsis, who had followed along behind him and now stood near some palm trees growing there.
The tall man removed his scarf and pointed hat, revealing himself to be an elderly elf whose hair was still mostly blonde but streaked with gray, along with his beard which was almost entirely white now except for sporadic patches of yellow amid the gray hairs atop his chin and mouth area where he had shaved it recently for neatness and practicality during the heat of the desert suns beat down upon them like giant flaming hands reaching from heaven itself to smite them where they stood—a smiting which would surely have occurred had they stayed much longer than they did now at this oasis waiting for Ulath's second-in-command Tyrius to arrive for this meeting with their mutual enemy whom none other than Ulath himself had summoned after several years of being hunted relentlessly by Tyrius ever since that fateful day when Tyrius's lover was brutally murdered by Ulath himself—and so he removed his disguise as well as his shirt before sitting down on a boulder near where he had been standing earlier when they first arrived at this oasis while also removing his boots after first checking to see that no animals were hiding under them before setting them aside as well so he could remove his socks as well—but he did keep on his pants so Tyrius wouldn't get any ideas about trying something underhanded while he was otherwise distracted by taking off his clothing—although really he didn't think Tyrius would attempt anything like that because if he did Ulath could simply use magic to dissolve Tyrius's clothes away before whatever perverted trickery might take place between them got started anyway—but just in case Tyrsis kept an eye on him while taking off his boots while also keeping an eye out around them to see if any animals were approaching or nearby just in case Tyrius tried something unexpected anyway despite how unlikely such an occurrence would be given how far away they were from civilization right now—and then after taking off his boots Ulath began undoing his pants next while also glancing over at Tyrius now and then to see if he was doing anything suspicious or otherwise potentially harmful to him—while also casting furtive glances back towards his clothes every few moments just in case some creature might decide to crawl out from underneath them while there wasn't anyone else around other than himself here at this secluded oasis—and so after removing those pants Ulath sat back down on the boulder again once more before resting both arms atop its surface while letting out a sigh of relief at finally being able to cool down after all this time walking through this damnable desert without stopping—and then finally managed even with all this frantic activity going on around him managed to slip off those gloves too before placing them next on top of those boots so everything would be easier to find later on when getting dressed again while also doing double-takes every so often over at Tyrius whenever he happened look away from watching out for danger due to either seeing some animal approaching or not paying attention long enough due to being too busy making sure no animals were sneaking up behind him or something like that—and so once done getting undressed Ulath sat there quite naked except for those boots and gloves resting upon the boulder beside him while also wondering what sort of trickery might take place between them during their talk over lunch—because why else would Tyrius have met with him like this other than something nasty being planned against him by Tyrius himself?—but really when thinking about it things made sense because otherwise why else would Tyrius have brought him all the way out here just for lunch unless he wanted something more than just that? —And why else would he have removed all his clothes except for those boots and gloves unless he hadn't planned on changing back into those dirty clothes again like normal people do after eating lunch outdoors instead? —And why else would there be food set out all ready for both of them like this if not because there were some cruel plans already set into motion ready to be enacted during their meal together? —And so when watching Tyrius spread out their napkins onto their plates on top of boulders nearby before carefully placing slices of bread atop these napkins followed by pieces of sausage wrapped up in paper towels placed upon these bread slices followed by jars containing condiments placed upon these sausages followed by chopsticks (which were covered with plastic wrap) added alongside these jars along with plastic knives used instead of forks placed directly onto these sausages too as well as plastic teaspoons added alongside these chopsticks (still wrapped) sticking out of each knife tip side-ways pointing downwards close beside each condiment jar's lid before finally adding condiments atop each sauage slice (after unwrapping each one) using each plastic spoon instead of using knives / forks / fingers / etc.—All whilst doing everything necessary with great care never making any mistakes or missteps whatsoever despite having been blind most likely ever since birth given how expertly everything seemed executed without ever looking down towards where whatever food item might be resting beside whatever utensil needed lifting off said item's plate or jar before moving down towards that item's napkin/plate/jar/etc.—all proved beyond any doubt whatsoever that Tyrsis's fears had been correct indeed: This seemingly friendly meeting between enemies had been nothing but trap devised by none other than Ulath himself who knew full well what sort of tricks awaited within said trap meant meant only meant meant meant meant meant...meant...meant...meant...meant...meant...meant...meant...meant...MEANT....for....for....for....for....for....for....for....himself!
