"Will you quit your yammering, Swell?"

Swell said nothing in response. He just grunted and spit out a large wad of chewing tobacco onto the sandy floor. Wick watched as it bounced and rolled away from them. After they'd walked through the desert for days, he was growing tired of Swell's complaints and generally surly attitude. Wick was ready to end this trip and get back home to his wife and daughter.

"Can't really blame a man for wanting to take a break after walking for hours in this infernal dust."

Swell pointed his shotgun into the sky and fired another shot. They were close now. Wick could feel it.

"Yah think the sheriff might be sleeping up there?" Swell asked.

Wick shrugged his shoulders. "Don't know."

They continued their slow march toward the dark opening at the entrance to the cave. It looked like an old mine shaft that had been long forgotten by its owners. The barrel of Swell's gun glowed bright yellow in the low light of the moonshine suns that lit up the night sky nearby. With each step they took, they left a trail of footprints behind them, slowly filling with dust as they walked. Time seemed to stand still while they waited by the entrance to see if Sheriff Mary would make another appearance so they could finally capture him and put an end to his reign of terror throughout all these moon towns scattered across this planet's surface. It was tiring work chasing around criminals on this dusty rock, but for men like Swell and Wick who were both searching for peace in their lives by doing good deeds, it was worth it to make sure that justice was served where it was due. A few more minutes passed before Swell gave Wick a nudge in his side with his elbow as he gestured to him with his head toward the opening of the mine shaft at their feet.
