Unity's Promise

The sun was slowly rising in the east, as it always does when the moon is dead. I sat on top of a building, staring at the silhouette of Zootopia's skyline.

"You're not supposed to be here."

I turned my head towards the voice and saw Nick Wilde standing next to me, looking up at the sky as well. Green eyes met blue, and both of us averted our gaze. We were partners, but we weren't friends. I could live with that. It wasn't like we had much of a choice.

"I was hoping you'd get here first." I looked back up at the sky again. "You know what day it is?"

Nick stood next to me, leaning against the ledge. "Yeah... it's been sixteen years since..." He paused for a moment before continuing, "...since she left."

We fell silent again. It wasn't easy for either of us to think about her, but today was more difficult than most days because today was her birthday. We stopped by her grave in Sahara Square every year during this time to pay our respects, but we don't usually come together because it's too painful for us both. Today was different though; today we were no longer alone in our grief. Today I had someone else to share this pain with.

A few seconds passed before Nick broke the silence once again. "You remember how much she loved carrots? She used to eat them so fast sometimes that she had to chew them three times just to keep everything down." He chuckled lightly at the memory before looking down at me with a solemn expression. "I miss that little bunny."

I smiled in agreement before looking back up towards the sky again and sighed softly. This time, it was my turn to speak through my memories: "She hated carrots when they started sprouting though... she always said they made her feel sick." My smile grew wider as I remembered how much she hated those tiny green shoots when they poked out of the ground every springtime. "But you know what she liked even more than eating carrots? Making costumes for herself!"

The two of us laughed together at that thought before turning serious once again. This time it was Nick who spoke first: "Something tells me that Judy would've done a lot better if she never became an officer." He looked over at me with an expression of deep regret on his face and continued: "I wish she'd never joined Zootopia's police force... maybe then things would've turned out differently for her."

The two of us fell silent once again as we both reflected upon our thoughts from earlier that morning; how things might have been different if Judy hadn't joined ZPD, and how things might have been different if Judy hadn't died so long ago under mysterious circumstances while investigating some very dangerous criminals... dangerous criminals who might still be roaming free somewhere in Zootopia right now! We didn't know where they were or what they were planning next, but one thing was certain: these criminals were far worse than any predators there ever were! Animals capable of murdering other animals without hesitation: all prey animals! Predators couldn't do anything like this; they simply weren't capable! Not all animals could be bad after all, right? Wasn't that why Judy joined ZPD all those years ago? To protect all animals from each other regardless of species? Wasn't that why she died in the line of duty? Because she believed in equality just like I did? Well then why did things end up like this!? Why are predators still being treated unfairly after all these years?! Why aren't prey animals capable of doing anything like this?! Why can only predators commit these crimes?! What went wrong?! What went wrong sixteen years ago?! What happened to equality?! What happened to our hope!?

My heart felt heavy with the weight of those unanswered questions, the burden of injustice that still loomed over Zootopia. Nick and I had both dedicated our lives to the fight against prejudice, just like Judy had. But despite our efforts, it seemed as though we were only scratching the surface.

As the sun began to cast its warm glow on the city, I turned to Nick, determination blazing in my eyes. "We can't let her death be in vain, Nick. We have to find the answers we've been searching for all these years. We owe it to Judy."

Nick nodded, his usually sly smile replaced with a grave expression. "You're right, Carrots. It's about time we stopped hiding from the truth and faced it head-on. Judy would want us to keep fighting, to keep pushing for justice."

With renewed purpose, we left the rooftop and headed back to the city streets. The bustling metropolis whispered stories of corruption and deceit, but we were ready to listen.

We delved deeper into the files, combing through cold cases and long-forgotten evidence. It seemed that the case surrounding Judy's death had been swept under the rug by those in power. Our investigation brought us face to face with a web of lies and deception that reached further than we could have ever imagined.

As we dug deeper, we began to uncover a pattern. Other prey animals had died under similar circumstances, and yet their cases had never been given the attention they deserved. The evidence pointed to a carefully orchestrated cover-up, shielding a powerful figure who manipulated the system to maintain their grip on Zootopia.

But we weren't going to be silenced. We gathered every bit of evidence we could find, revealing a tangled network of corruption that extended far beyond the confines of Zootopia. It was a heartbreaking truth to accept. There were those within the system, high-ranking officials, who were knowingly casting a shadow of fear over all predators.

With each revelation, my anger grew. The fire of justice burned within me, fueling my determination to expose the truth and bring the guilty to justice. Zootopia had a stain on its name, and it was up to us to scrub it clean.

We took our findings to the news outlets, exposing the corruption and the truth behind Judy's death. The citizens of Zootopia were outraged, demanding accountability and an end to the discrimination that had plagued their city for far too long.

The public outcry set in motion a chain of events that could no longer be ignored. An independent investigation was launched, led by officers who shared our convictions. It was a time of reckoning, as the truth unraveled and powerful figures began to fall.

With each victory, the spark of hope flickered back to life in the hearts of the oppressed. Predators and prey stood together, united against the forces of injustice. Zootopia was on the cusp of transformation, a turning point that would forever redefine the destiny of the city.

As the darkness began to recede, the memory of Judy shone brighter than ever. Her sacrifice had ignited a fire in us all, a fire that would burn until equality and justice were firmly established in every corner of Zootopia.

And as the moon rose in the night sky, we knew that her spirit was with us, guiding us on this path of truth and redemption. The legacy of Officer Judy Hopps would forever be etched in the heart of Zootopia, a symbol of courage, determination, and the unwavering pursuit of justice.

As we walked side by side through the streets, Nick and I knew that the job was far from over. Our fight was just beginning, and together, we would continue Judy's mission, ensuring that no more lives would be lost to the shadows of prejudice.

Zootopia would rise, stronger and more united than ever before, for the legacy of Judy Hopps lived on in the hearts of those who believed in a world where all animals, predators and prey alike, could be treated with equality and respect.
