Elemental Dreams: The Chronicles of Wisedan
·
Published 6/22/2023In a distant and isolated solar system, a reclusive and mysterious loner named Wisedan discovers he possesses the extraordinary ability to manipulate the four elements, placing his stone-age tribe on the cusp of a groundbreaking evolution. As conspiracies and threats loom around him, Wisedan must navigate a perilous path, choosing between unleashing his incredible power to reshape his world or risk succumbing to greed and corruption. Will he unearth the true potential of his kind, or will the tides of darkness extinguish their hope for a brighter future?

The sun was high in the sky. Its brilliant yellow rays danced silently over the plains as a gentle breeze blew across the land. The lone figure trekking across the fields cast little shadow, and seemed to disappear into the vastness of the tall grass which swayed with each step of his pair of long legs.
He wore a loose white shirt and a pair of loose-fitting brown pants tied at the waist with a coarse, white rope. His hair was long and wild, but tied back with three braids on each side of his head. A thick black beard covered most of his face, only leaving his piercing green eyes visible as he walked, taking in the sights around him as he went.
Wisedan had always enjoyed these walks through the countryside. It had been years now since he had left his home village to travel on his own, and yet he still loved seeing this new place every day. He would remain here for two more days before moving on again, visiting other villages and observing the ways of those who lived there.
His mother had told him how to go about this when she’d given him his walking staff many years ago. “Always be kind to those you meet along your way, my son. And if you ever hear anyone say something unkind about our people or their ways, correct them gently but firmly by explaining what is right and what is wrong.” She smiled at him then and added, “You cannot let anyone keep you from doing what you have been sent to do.”
That was a long time ago though; Wisedan’s mother had passed away many years ago now. The thought saddened him as always, so he pushed it aside and focused instead on observing the land around him while he continued to walk through the tall grasses surrounding him on all sides. He felt he’d arrived in a very interesting place today; just ahead were some trees unlike any others he’d seen before. They were much taller than any trees he’d ever seen back home, with many large branches which stretched high into the sky above him. They also seemed different as well - more colorful perhaps? Pastel hues shaded their trunks and leaves alike, especially on one tree whose trunk bore a deep red hue that shone brightly in contrast to its pale green leaves.
The grass suddenly gave way to hard ground beneath Wisedan’s feet once he reached an open space between two trees whose canopies didn’t meet overhead. There wasn’t much grass here either - just enough to cover most of the soil beneath it so that it looked like it hadn’t been walked on by anyone else recently except for himself. Wisedan tilted his head up towards one of the tree trunks nearest him to observe its canopy closer and noticed something odd about it - there seemed to be an opening directly above Wisedan where no leaves grew at all!
He slowly began walking towards it when suddenly - *CRASH!* - something flew out from behind one of the trees nearby! Wisedan leapt quickly out of its way, fearing that whatever it was might fly right into him! He wasn’t sure what sort of creature could move so quickly through such thick undergrowth, but whatever it was must have been huge judging by how much noise it made when it burst out past some nearby shrubs! And it had wings too! Wings that beat furiously as they propelled whatever this thing was straight up into the air above Wisedan!
But then… nothing happened after that? After watching this strange flying animal… this bird? It appeared to be flapping its wings furiously like any bird would do in flight… but nothing happened? It continued ascending higher and higher into the air above Wisedan until finally… *THUMP*… It came crashing down headfirst onto one of those strange trees? It held itself up against one of those trunk things with its talons before slowly sliding down onto a branch lower down? Then… What did that mean? Did birds normally do that sort of thing? Wisedan shook his head at this latest mystery and turned back towards where he'd been standing earlier before all this craziness started happening just now…
Wait… There were two sticks poking out from behind one of those other trees?! Wisedan curiously poked around some more bushes until eventually... *BANG!* Something else flew out from behind another tree further off! This time however Wisedan saw it coming - some sort of giant bug? A spider maybe? Whatever this thing was though… It flew straight at Wisedan again!? But this time… Wisedan simply batted it away with his walking stick just like his mother had taught him all those years ago! All he did was wave his stick right in front of himself though; no need to actually hit anything when there was nothing there anymore anyway!? The big bug thing hit something invisible in front of Wisedan's face and fell straight back down to earth again!? Not far off from where it'd flown out from!? Wisedan shrugged at this strangeness too and turned back towards where he'd seen those two sticks sticking up from behind one of those trees near where all that flying madness just happened!?
Curiosity bubbled within Wisedan as he approached the spot where the sticks had emerged. As he drew closer, he noticed that they weren't ordinary sticks but rather two wooden poles planted firmly in the ground. On top of each pole was a tattered piece of cloth, fluttering gently in the breeze. It took a moment for Wisedan to realize that these were makeshift flags.
He examined the flags closely, noting the symbols embroidered on each of them. One bore the emblem of a rising sun, while the other displayed a crescent moon. The significance of these symbols was not lost on Wisedan; they represented the eternal dance of light and darkness, a balance reflected both in the heavens above and within the hearts of individuals.
It struck Wisedan that these flags were not there by accident. They were intentional markers, placed to guide or warn those who ventured into this territory. He had, unknowingly, stumbled upon a space that belonged to someone else. Intrigued, Wisedan began to wonder who it was that had claimed this part of the world as their own.
As he pondered, a gentle rustling sound reached his ears. Wisedan turned towards the noise, and his eyes widened with surprise. A group of figures emerged from behind the trees, moving with a grace that suggested familiarity with this place. They were clad in flowing robes of various colors - crimson, emerald, royal blue. Their faces were partially obscured by ornate masks, their expressions hidden from view. Wisedan's heart quickened at the sight of these mysterious beings, each one radiating an aura of otherworldly energy.
One of the figures stepped forward, their gown billowing softly around them. They raised a hand in greeting, revealing a delicate silver bracelet that encircled their wrist. Wisedan reciprocated the gesture, a mixture of curiosity and wariness flooding his mind.
"Welcome, wanderer," the figure spoke in a voice that sounded both ethereal and grounded. "You have ventured into the realm of the Fae. We hold this land sacred and have guarded it for generations."
Wisedan nodded, absorbing every word with rapt attention. "I apologize for trespassing unknowingly. My journey led me here, and I meant no disrespect."
The figure's eyes twinkled behind their mask, their gaze filled with ancient wisdom. "Fear not, for you possess the heart of a seeker. We sensed your arrival and observed your encounters with the creatures of the air. It is a sign, a calling to embrace the mysteries that lie within."
Wisedan's curiosity swelled, intertwining with a sense of purpose he hadn't felt in a long time. There was something he had been searching for, an answer to a question he hadn't yet formulated. Could it be that this encounter, this convergence of strange events, held the key to unraveling the truth he sought?
The figure beckoned Wisedan to follow, and he complied without hesitation. As they moved deeper into the Fae's territory, Wisedan's senses heightened. He noticed the subtle shift in the air, the soft hum of enchantment that lingered beneath the surface. Strange flora dotted the landscape, emitting a gentle luminescence that bathed everything in a soft, otherworldly glow.
They arrived at a clearing surrounded by ancient oak trees that seemed to reach for the heavens. In the center stood an intricately carved stone, its surface etched with symbols and sigils that spoke of forgotten power. Wisedan approached the stone, his hand brushing against its weathered surface. He felt a surge of energy coursing through him, a familiar sensation that resonated within the depths of his being.
The figure joined Wisedan at the stone, their voice resonating with reverence. "This is an ancient gateway, a portal to realms beyond mortal comprehension. It is said that those who possess a pure heart and an unyielding spirit can pass through and discover secrets hidden from the waking world."
Wisedan's heart quickened, a mixture of anticipation and trepidation coursing through his veins. He knew deep within him that this was his moment, his chance to uncover the truth he sought. With steady resolve, he raised his gaze to meet the figure's masked eyes.
"I am ready," he said, his voice steady despite the racing of his heart. "I will follow the path that lies beyond this gateway, for it is my destiny to seek truth and bring light to darkness."
The figure nodded, a smile curling beneath their mask. "Then step forth, seeker, and embrace the boundless mysteries that await you. May your journey be guided by the balance of the sun and moon, and may you unveil the truths that shall shape your destiny."
With that, Wisedan took a deep breath, his eyes fixed on the gateway before him. He stepped forward, crossing the threshold between the known world and the realms of the Fae. As he did, the air crackled with magic, and the world around him dissolved into a kaleidoscope of shimmering light and shifting shadows.
