The Land of the Hidden Treasure
·
Published 2/28/2023Brave friends Jet, Kayanne, Zeth, and Jasper embark on a daring journey to seek a legendary hidden treasure in 4th century Pacific Islands, vying with a murderous pirate captain and other treasure hunters to do so. Will they win the prize of their courage, wits and quest, or will the pirate and his forces take the ultimate treasure?
Kayanne began to stir as the light from the morning sun peeked beneath her eyelids. Stretching her arms and legs, she could feel the cool sand beneath her skin. She looked around, noting that she was alone on the beach. Her friends were nowhere to be seen. Looking at her watch, she noted that it was 8:30am. Her friends had gone ahead of her, in hopes of finding some kind of shelter before nightfall. Kayanne had drawn the short straw, so to speak. It wasn't that she didn't want to be out in the elements with them, she simply hated being left behind. Being a nurse, she was used to being responsible for others. When they had chosen their roles for this mission, Zeth had selected her to stay behind and tend to any injuries or medical needs that might arise while they were off searching for the treasure. He and Jet were the most physically able to handle themselves under duress and Kayanne couldn't argue with that logic. They needed someone who could take care of things if it got rough. And Jasper?
Jet had offered him the role of lookout due to his remarkable eyesight and ability to spot danger from afar before it arrived on shore. He was going to use those eyes to scout out the island for anything out of place that might indicate there was treasure nearby. As leader of their group and one who had extensive knowledge of history, he also knew what landmarks might be important in finding the treasure they sought after. In order to get back to shore quickly if they were attacked or needed help, Jasper would tie a rope between two palm trees up above and let it down so they could climb back up to safety if necessary. That's why he'd brought the rope along with him on this trip; he wanted it handy in case he needed it for something like this.
Kayanne thought about getting up and walking toward where Zeth and Jet had gone but decided against it when she heard someone approaching her from behind. She turned around and saw Jasper approaching her. His eyes told her everything she needed to know before he said a word; there was trouble near by and they needed to get back to shore quickly! Kayanne grabbed hold of Jasper's hand without hesitation as he helped her up from where she sat cross-legged on the beach and began running towards where they'd left their rafts floating in the water. The two young people reached their destination quickly enough but all was not well as Kayanne felt a hand grab hold of her shoulder just as she prepared herself for a quick dive into the water next to where their rafts floated nearby on the water's surface.
Jasper looked over at his friend in surprise just as another hand grabbed his shoulder from behind also pulling him back away from Kayanne who struggled against whoever had grabbed hold of them both before finally dropping whatever item they held in their hands into the ocean when a third unseen hand appeared out of nowhere surrounding their heads with its fingers pressed firmly over both of their mouths effectively muffling any sound from escaping their lips preventing them from calling out for assistance which is exactly what Kayanne tried doing next after dropping whatever item she held in her hands into the ocean next to where their rafts floated nearby on the water's surface causing a plume of water spray into the air which caused Jasper's attacker to loosen his grip slightly just as Kayanne took advantage of this momentary lapse in judgement by headbutting whoever had grabbed hold of them resulting in an audible grunt escaping whoever held them loosening his grip even more allowing Jasper enough leeway to pull free from his attacker who stumbled backwards tripping over something unseen sending him crashing forcefully into something else unseen causing a loud crash which echoed across the beach followed by an eerie silence which caused both Jasper and Kayanne to look at each other with raised eyebrows before peeking around cautiously at what lay hidden within this silence now settling over them causing them both wonder what could have possibly caused such a commotion?
Suddenly, Kayanne jumped back startled as someone emerged from seemingly nowhere right behind where they stood! She gasped loudly causing Jasper's attacker who had been knocked unconscious just now beginning rising slowly back up onto his feet groggily rubbing his head trying regain his balance only manage another stumble backwards again tripping over something unseen once again causing him fall forward onto something else unseen resulting in another loud crash which echoed across the beach followed by an eerie silence which caused both Jasper and Kayanne looking at each other with raised eyebrows again before peeking around cautiously at what lay hidden within this sudden silence now settling over them causing them both wonder what could have possibly caused such a commotion?
"Umm - would you mind telling me what happened?" Kayanne asked politely turning toward whoever had appeared seemingly out of nowhere standing right behind where they stood breathing heavily catching their breath after having run here quickly sensing that he might need their help after all seeing how there were multiple attackers surrounding them now making themselves known making it obvious that they weren't going anywhere anytime soon no matter how much screaming or struggling they did while pointing towards where two large men dressed as pirates stood still holding onto either one arm each tightly pulling Jasper and Kayanne closer together so close together now that they found themselves bumping shoulders every time one or both tried moving any part of their bodies seeing how there was no room left between them now forcing them closer together since these pirates seemed intent on keeping them this way until someone came up with some kind of plan on how best go about getting out of here without winding up maimed or worse dead after all these pirates didn't seem like nice people judging by how brutish sounding grunting grunts growls groans growls growled grumbles growled growled growled growled gruff grunting grunts gruff grunting grunts gruff grunting grunts gruff grunting grunts gruff grunting grunts gruff grunting grunts gruff grunt gruff grunt gruff grunt gruff grunt gruff grunt gruff grunt gruff grunt gruff grunt gruff grunt gruf grunted gruf grunted gruf grunted gruf grunted grousing growling grousing growling grousing growling grousing growling grousing grousing grousing gurgle gurgle gurgle gurgle gurgle gurgled gurgled gurgled gurgled gurgled gurgled gurgled gurgled guzzle guzzled guzzled guzzled guzzled guzzles half hearted huffs half hearted huffs half hearted huffs half hearted huffs half hearted huffs halfhearted hums halfway hums halfway hums halfway hums halfway hums halfway hums halfway hums halfway hums halfway hums halfway humming hummed humming hummed humming hummed humming hummed humming hummed humming hummed humming humming humming humming humming humming humming humming humming humming humming humming humming singing sings sings sings sings sings sings sings sings singing singing singing singing singing singing singing singing singing singing song songs songs songs songs songs songs songs songs songs song song song song song song song song song song song sweetly talked whispered sweetly talked whispered sweetly talked whispered sweetly talked whispered sweetly talked whispered sweetly talked whispered sweetly talked whispered sweetly whispered sweetly whispered sweetly whispered sweetly whispered sweetly whispered sweetly softly softly softly softly softly softly softly softly softly softness softness softness softness softness softness softness softnesses softly softly softly softened softened softened softened softened softened softened softenness softenednesses softnesses softened tried tried tried tried tried tried tried tried tried trying trying trying trying trying trying trying trying trying trying tries
