Resilient Hearts: A Love Story of Alphas and Omegas

I never really knew what happened to me.

I grew up in a small town, far from the other towns. At school I was always alone, people wouldn't talk to me because of my smell and my lack of pack membership. My parents thought that it would be better for me to be a farmer like them. They didn't care about my condition, they didn't think it was a problem at all. But when the other members of our town started to point out that I was an omega, I had no idea what that meant, but I knew it was bad.

My parents were confused by my change in behavior, as if they never cared about me in the first place. When they realized that I wasn't eating or drinking anything, they shouted at me and told me to leave the house and go live in the woods like an animal. I left the next day and wandered around until I found a cave where I could hide from everyone. That's when Alpha Luka found me that night. He was hunting with his pack when suddenly he can smell his mate nearby. He sniffs around and finds me curled up on the floor of the cave. He calls out my name and approaches me slowly, as if he is afraid of scaring me away. He crouches down and puts a hand out for me to sniff, which I did hesitantly.

He takes me back with him and takes care of his mate when he arrives back to his pack's home. For days he waits for Jann to come out of his room but after many failed attempts, Luka decides to risk everything by entering his room without his permission - something he's been avoiding doing since Jann arrived at their home because he does not want to scare him away. Jann is sitting on the floor with his back against the wall and with his knees pulled close to his chin. Luka walks closer and places a hand on Jann's shoulder gently before rubbing it softly back and forth while sitting down next to him.

"Jann?"

Jann looks up slowly before turning towards Luka who also looks at him in return but Jann quickly looks away again because he doesn't want Luka to see how red his eyes are from crying so much lately. "Yes?" he whispers hoarsely after clearing throat quietly before trying again louder this time "yes?"

"Look at me." Luka says softly "you don't have to cry anymore okay? Everything will be alright now." He puts an arm around Jann's shoulders and pulls him against himself gently as Jann finally gives up holding back more tears and starts sobbing into Luka's chest instead while putting his own arms around Luka's waist tightly "I'm here now okay? You're safe." Jann shudders quietly as sobs continue bursting through him while Luka holds onto him tighter "Everything will be fine."

After calming down a bit, Jann lifts his head up off of Luka's chest slowly before taking a few deep breaths in order to calm himself down even more before finally looking up at Luka who also lifts his head up off of Jann's shoulder at the same time "you're my mate?" he asks hesitantly after another moment of silence passes between them "but didn't you say your mate died last month during battle?"

Luka sighs softly before answering "yes... but you're my new mate now." He explains quietly as he moves a hand up from Jann's waist over toward his face where he stops once he reaches Jann's cheek where he gently cups it with one hand while using the other hand to tilt Jann's head up so that they are now looking each other in the eye once again "I smelled you while we were hunting today." He says quietly "and I had known right then who you were." He continues after giving Jann a small smile now "my old mate was strong too but she couldn't survive her wounds when she saved us during our last battle against another pack... She saved us all." His voice trails off slightly as sadness sweeps across his face for a moment before disappearing once again as he continues speaking this time with pride present in both his voice and on his face "she fought bravely until her last breath and she died knowing that we would all be safe from being killed by those... animals." His tone darkens slightly now as anger begins seeping through "because of her sacrifice we are still alive today."

Jann stares at Luka for several moments before realizing what exactly just happened between them and what it means for them now "you mean..." he stammers out quietly before cutting himself off altogether as realization hits him like a ton of bricks "...that you'll take care of me now? Like your old mate?" He asks cautiously after quickly collecting himself again enough so that he can form proper sentences once again

"Yes, Jann," Luka replies with a tender smile, brushing a strand of hair away from Jann's face. "I promise to take care of you, just like I took care of my old mate. I will protect you, cherish you, and make sure you never feel alone or abandoned again."

Jann's heart swells with a mix of warmth and disbelief. For so long, he had believed he was destined to be an outcast, forever condemned to a life of loneliness and rejection.
