Anna and I have been friends since high school. She's my best friend. In the beginning, we didn't have much in common, but over the years we've grown closer. And now, here we are, standing in line for the ticket booth for our trip to space! The sun was shining and people were walking around us in their suits and dresses and nice shoes. The whole city was full of excitement, everyone running from one place to another. We were all supposed to be at the stadium. My hands were shaking, I just couldn't believe it!
"Are you nervous?" she asked me.
"A little." I said.
"They said this would be a difficult trip and that it might not even work." Anna added.
"They said this could last months."
We looked up at the giant metal ship that sat silently on its launch pad. The humans had been working on this ship for decades and now was finally the moment they'd be taking off! They said it was dangerous, but they also said that if everything went well then it would only take them a few hours to reach Mars! They had figured out how to use light as fuel to power up their machines and travel to other planets! It was unbelievable yet here we were about to experience it for ourselves!
"I think I'm ready." I said, standing straight up with confidence.
"Me too!"
We both laughed nervously, looking down at our tickets which read:
"Departure: 4:39 PM"
Anna took my hand and we walked through security and onto the ship where hundreds of others where waiting inside. We took our seats and felt the rumble underneath us as the engines began to turn on. Everyone began hollering with excitement as we lifted off into the sky!
