Sarah's Superpowers: A Journey to the Heart of Brazil

As I walked into the kitchen, my father was making pancakes. My favorite. He never made anything else when I was home visiting. It was a special treat for me that he would make them for breakfast regardless of the time.

"Good morning, Dad." I said as I sat down at the table.

"Morning, Sarah." He replied with a smile as he poured the first pancake into the pan. "So what is today's agenda?"

I thought about it for a moment before answering one of my favorite things to do here in Brazil. "Well, I'll probably go down to the beach later this afternoon and hang out there until dinner." That was always my plan when I came home. Go to the beach and try to catch up on all of the gossip from my friends back home. "Why don't you guys come down with us tonight? We can eat dinner there and watch the sun set."

"That sounds wonderful Sarah! It has been too long since we've had dinner with you." My mother said as she walked into the kitchen with a pair of glasses filled with orange juice. She set one in front of me and kept one for herself before sitting down next to me at the table.

"It has been too long! We miss you so much whenever you're gone." My dad added as he finished pouring out his pancake batter onto the hot griddle. "We'll be there tonight if that's okay?" He asked as he glanced over at me. "You don't have any plans or anything do you?" He continued while he stacked another pancake onto the growing stack in the center of his griddle. "This isn't going to interfere with your plans is it?" He asked with a raised eyebrow, looking over at me again. "You won't be mad if we show up?" He asked again while he flipped his pancakes over, one by one, waiting for them to bubble up on both sides before moving onto making another one.
